This review is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at any restaurant ever. I forgot my mask so I put my shirt over my face to go inside to order. My vehicle is too large to fit in the drive thru and I was hungry after a 10hr shift. I ordered on the kiosk inside and waited at least 6ft from anyone else, with my face covered by my shirt and hand. Some employee (I’m assuming the manager) loudly asked me if I had a mask (everyone heard) and I said no. He then told me I was not allowed to be inside without a mask and it was CA law, even though my face was covered by my shirt and hand. No duh, I thought. I didn’t really know what to say at that point so I told him I already ordered on the kiosk and how was I supposed to get my food? (Obviously someone would have to bring it out to me) He said I would receive a text (I thought, a text message doesn’t bring me my food) so I told him I’ll wait outside for someone to bring it to me. He then short circuited and told me a second time that I can’t be inside without a mask. So I went outside and waited for my text. I got the text and no one came out for several minutes. So I called “The Habit” phone number and had to act like I was placing an order to talk to someone. I spoke to a lady who was nice and that said sorry after I told her I was asked to leave. She was the only good thing in this experience so thank you kind lady. I told her my situation and she said she would call them and let them know. Soon after that I got a call some loud person “Did you place an order??” Um yes. I did. “We will bring it out to you”. Not word for word but you get the picture. I was kind of pleased when the same idiot that told me to leave had to bring my food to me except for the fact that he was completely belligerent and did not care for my situation. He didn’t listen to a word I said. He then told me next time to go through the drive through. I said my vehicle was too large for the drive through. He then again mindlessly repeated to me a third time, You can’t come inside without a mask “like the signs say” “It’s California Law” he said. I walked away forgetting my drink and he rudely asked me, “Do you want a drink?” I took that drink. After he finished talking I tried to kindly suggest providing masked for people that don’t have them. He scoffed and said again, We don’t do that and you can’t come in without a mask. Thank you sir I didn’t know. To put the icing on the cake. I ate my burger. I ordered a double char. There was only one patty. And it was barely warm enough to enjoy it. This Habit will never become my habit. For a 13$ meal I expect...
Read moreToday is their 5th full day open for regular business. It's my 3rd time here. I have to say, given the fact that their burger patties are only a hair over 3 ounces, they make a pretty decent burger. I do think, however, that they would be way better off going with a standard quarter pound patty, especially for the price.
The first time, I tried their (Seasonal Feature) Santa Barbara Char, with avocado, on grilled sourdough. Pretty good - all the ingredients were nice and fresh.
The 2nd time I just got a regular Double Char Burger with an order of fries, so I could try their fries. I'm not a big fan of regular American cheese so I get their white American cheese, which is supposedly an American-Swiss blend. Their fries are better than In-and-Out fries, but definitely not nearly as good as McDonald's fries.
Today, the 3rd time, I wanted to see how their bacon is (a $1.39 add-on), so I got a Double Char with bacon, and then I wanted to try one of their shakes, so I ordered a coffee shake for $3.69. The shake was pretty good and the bacon was worth the add-on price, and definitely better than the flimsy excuse for bacon you get at McDonald's or Burger King.
Again, even a slightly larger patty would make for a noticeably better burger, but still, all in all, the burgers were decent for their size, and consistent every time, even though the 1st two times I came, it was super busy because they've only just opened. Their staff is also consistently very friendly and they do a good job of keeping the place clean.
For me, personally, a better alternative than In-and-Out Burger, and once business levels off at a "normal" level, then definitely a place I can see stopping in for a quick bite, once every...
Read moreDoes Woodland really need another fast food burger joint? Probably not. But The Habit isn’t a typical burger joint. Nor is it really fast food; at least not in the traditional sense. It’s something different. Something special. And always delicious.
Ever since The Habit in Davis closed back in 2017, we've had to drive to Dixon or Sacramento to get our Habit fix. But that's no longer a problem with the opening of this convenient location in Woodland, previously occupied by my beloved (and missed) Del Taco.
I had the opportunity to attend a pre-opening event this week. The place was packed, as you'd expect from any establishment handing out free meals. But despite the large crowd, service was exceptional and reasonably fast thanks to a friendly and competent crew. Free to sample anything on the menu, I stuck with my favorite, the teriyaki char burger, served with grilled pineapple and sweet teriyaki sauce. It was as juicy (and messy) as I expected. The fries were perfectly cooked too, featuring a nice crispy exterior.
As longtime fan of The Habit, I'll be coming back for sure. When it comes to fast food, The Habit's burgers (and other menu options) are top-tier; in terms of quality, I'd compare them to In-N-Out. This all comes at a slightly higher price point than some may be expecting; my burger, fries, and drink came to just under $10. That's not really cheap, but I feel the quality is worth it. Maintaining high quality food and great service are key to any restaurant's survival and this location is off to a promising start. Hopefully they can keep it up in the days and months ahead. I'll be...
