Sarku Japan in Security Mall, Baltimore, MD charges costumers an extra .50 cents for food that they are not receiving, WITHOUT prior consent.
At Sarku Japan, customers are supposed to have the option of ordering brown or fried rice. Otherwise, they receive the regular white rice.
However, the Security Mall Sarku Japan charges ALL customers an extra .50 cents any time they order a meal that includes rice, and lists it as "fried" rice on the receipt, when the customer did not request fried rice, and the rice is plain white rice with soy sauce mixed in it.
When I realized that I was being charged an extra .50 cents, I asked that the extra charge for the brown rice be removed, and paid my bill. Unbeknownst to me, the cashier deducted one meal, not just the .50 cents charge.
When my meals were ready, I took the two meals that I ordered, and waited for the rest of my food to be prepared. When I finally asked for the rest of my order, the cooks told me that I had not paid for the 2nd meal and asked to see my receipt, when I told them that I did. When I showed one of the cook's my receipt, he pointed out that I had only been charged for one meal that still included the .50 cents charge that I asked be removed, as well as the other items that he was withholding until I paid for the 2nd meal. I had three small hungry children with me who had already started eating, so I felt obligated to pay, as they caused a scene, like I tried to take a free meal without paying.
Then, as I paid for the 2nd meal, I saw that I was again charged an extra .50 cents for this "fried" rice that I never received, nor requested. By this time, I was mortified by the scene that they caused over their error, and did not want any further confusion to be displayed in front of the kids.
As I waited for the charge to go through, I asked a customer standing behind me, if the white rice with soy sauce on it, which was the only rice available, was what they were calling fried rice, and he responded, "yes" with a frown. I too frowned in disgust as I realized that I and every other person in line, was being cheated out of our hard earned money.
This happened during Christmas Break 2021. Though I will never patronize that Sarku Japan again, all I can think of is all of the additional money that they are cheating people out of without their permission by ringing up that extra .50 cent charge for plain brown colored white rice that they are listing as "fried" rice on patrons receipts, without making people aware FIRST that they are going to...
Read moreHonestly it's not even close to food court quality. I've had better food from street vendors. The price is ludicrous for the poor quality food. The dumplings are dry and flavorless, lacking in all flavor. The food doesn't carry umami flavor at all. The teriyaki sauce is bland. The employees forgot my dumplings when giving me my food. I had to go back and point it out even stood there waiting to see if they would ask or notice which they did not. They speak far too quietly to be heard in the food court. And the one they had working register didn't speak English well. He spoke Spanish decently though. The rice was not even enticing at all. It was also bland as we're the vegetables. The shrimp was cooked well but that's about it. It was below average in all respects for even food court food. Everything in the picture including that pitiful soy sauce cup cost 15.33 the food was worth in quality at BEST 6 bucks. Not a good experience. Do not recommend untill they make MAJOR improvements In the entire way they do things. Even the way they give out orders is confusing. They throw it all in styrofoam containers and toss it on the rack above the grill for people to just grab as they see fit. They don't check receipts even. It's honestly just one giant mess. And honestly it didn't...
Read moreBeen coming here for two decades. The food portions get smaller & smaller over the years. The fried rice is extremely light on Soy Sauce with no onions, peas, or carrots in it. The trays used to be bigger and they used to stuff the trays so much that it would hardly close. Nowadays, they give way more rice then actual meat. They fill the big part & small corner of the tray with rice, fill the other small corner with veggies, then skimp out by throwing very few pieces of meat on top. & they still have the nerve to go up on their price. This place still gets a loyal crowd because of how long this business been here but it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. I would give it 5 stars in the past. They don't even stand out and hand out samples of their Teriyaki chicken like they used to either. The good smelling chicken teriyaki smell draws me near then I leave heavily...
