First, I want them to do well, succeed, and thrive. They make good food but it is too expensive for what you get. A dozen empanadas for $38+tax+tip (yes, I do hate the systems that "ask" for a tip on your face when checking out with credit card). Also please drop the tip shaming, I'm not tipping unless there is some special effort and time put into it. A counter clerk handing over food is not for tipping. And I tip 50% when good service is given at sit down restaurants which gives me extraordinary service when coming back. This is a store.
Making 40 empanadas at home (20 beef, 10 chicken, 10 ham & cheese) costs $25 ($0.63 each; ingredients bought from expensive regular stores).
Considering a critical mass of 240 empanadas a day (20 dozen) 6 days/week, then add other costs such as energy, amortized equipment, rent, labor, and FICA+profit+mktg+tax+others the break even cost per empanada should be easily around $1.50-$2.00. They charge $3.5 each which is OK for a single empanada but the dozen needs to be at not-a-cent-more-than $24 (instead of $38). This gets their food in the ballpark to compete with Chinese/pizza/subs/Thai/etc. Otherwise this is just a treat every now and then as opposed to a daily food option.
Too many other delicious options at a significantly better price that will beat them.
Food is good though, I probably will not come back but truly hope...
Read moreThis was our second time ordering from them, and both times our orders were amazing! At this point we've tried two thirds of the menu and found all of them to be quite tasty. This includes all the chicken and vegetarian/vegan options. So far the Spicy Chicken in my personal favorite. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu so we will definitely order from them again.
We ordered through grubhub and delivery was fairly quick and even though we live a decent distance away, everything was still warm.
A few notes to help future customers: If you are ordering for multiple people, ask to have your order labeled. The empanadas are premade so you can't customize them. Depending on the day they may not have all the options available. They are closed on Sundays.
I definitely recommend...
Read moreI've been here a few times now and just top notch all around! We've tried just about all their flavors and you really can't go wrong. Though the classic beef is my favorite. Last two times we were there we met the owner Jim (the gentleman in the far left of the picture of the display window), and his young son Max who served us - this is a lovely family business and they were friendly and welcoming. So much so the warm atmosphere spilled over to those of us customers who started chatting with each other. Love me a good small business engaged in excellence!👍🏾 parking nearby is hit or miss depending on the day (or if a woosox game is on) but totally worth it!
TLDR: empanadas are fresh & delicious, owners are awesome, spend...
