Mediocre food, atrocious service, and inflated prices make for a bad combination and a restaurant that none of us will ever be returning to. The main "seasoning" in all the dishes seemed to be salt and lots of it, in lieu of anything more flavorful. Even the eloté was so thinly flavored it tasted mainly of char from the grill, although admittedly the few kernels that did have a decent amount of cheese and chili powder were delicious; if only the whole ear had been appropriately slathered, that would have been the stand-out dish of the night (although ten dollars for two ears of corn would still be a bit on the pricey side, it probably would have seemed a lot more acceptable a price if they'd actually been TASTY ears of corn). The quesadilla was bland, the sausage queso fundito was merely okay, and the fajita was mainly passable simply because the portion of cheese and veggies provided was generous enough to compensate for the lack of flavor in the meat and peppers.
And speaking of meat...I've never seen a restaurant that served Mexican food that had fewer options on its menu for a vegetarian. Not a single bean entree anywhere, or even an option to substitute a bean or veggie burger for any of the sandwiches. There's one quesadilla that doesn't have meat in it, and that's the sole entree on the whole menu. (Our vegetarian diner ordered the eloté appetizer with a side salad for their meal, which is one option for a meatless meal provided you're keen on bland, charred corn with a few hints of eloté flavoring.) The drinks were fine...and no better than that. The mango iced tea was good at least, although the waitress seemed to forget what she was meant to be bringing (or was trying to save the restaurant a few cents on flavoring perhaps?) for the much-belated refill of tea that eventually arrived sans mango.
Hopefully it was our waitress's first day on the job and they skimped on her training, because otherwise I'm not sure what could explain our evening. She didn't seem to know most of the food or drinks on the menu, to the point of twice bringing people the wrong item because (presumably) she didn't realize that there was another option that was what had actually been ordered (a plain pina colada instead of the pina colada margarita; chipotle sauce instead of lime crema), and one of the entrees she had altered incorrectly based on her misunderstanding of what food had actually been ordered.
She forgot the drinks at the bar for a good twenty minutes until prompted to bring them by a request for waters "while we're waiting," at which point she hurried off to fetch the bar drinks and forgot the waters. Even when she was down to only two tables, she seemed bewildered by her whole situation and unable to keep-up with what she was theoretically meant to be doing, instead wandering around and looking skittish and lost. The food came out piecemeal, and the food-runner delivering the second round of meals knocked into the table so badly he almost landed in someone's plate (and their face) when he attempted to lunge across them to put something down on the other side of the table.
The only thing that didn't require multiple requests to produce were the boxes at the end of the meal, and frankly given the quality of the food we probably could have done without those save that we would have felt bad leaving so much (mediocre) food behind. I expect those leftovers will go into the fridge and not come out again until it's time to throw them away. Best of intentions, right? That phrase seems like it sums-up Tequila Willies overall.
In summation: save your money and your time and go somewhere that serves decent food that you won't have to coax your...
Read moreMy visit to Tequila Willie's was a complete disaster from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that we were in for a rough experience. The menus were sticky, with pages glued together—it was gross. I had to wash my hands immediately. Clearly, there is no quality control.
It took an unreasonably long time to place our order, and we had to call over a random employee just to get the attention of our server, who was wearing coral.
Our server, Sabrina Z, was shockingly uninformed about the menu. When I asked for drink recommendations, she could only name random drinks and directed me to the cocktail menu, mentioning that the Chocolate Martini was sweet. Partway through our conversation, she admitted she wasn’t 21 and had no idea about the drinks. Why not say that from the start instead of misleading us with suggestions she had no basis for?
The food was a complete letdown. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, which arrived with dry chicken and the wrong type of lettuce, resulting in a bland and flavorless dish. Sabrina never returned to check on us, even though she passed by multiple times to attend to other tables. This neglect happened on a Tuesday at 7 PM, with no apparent reason for such poor service.
When I finally called her over to express my dissatisfaction with the salad, she asked if I wanted a box. My plate already had trash on it—napkin, straw wrapper, sauce container—clearly indicating I found the dish inedible. Her question was not only unprofessional but also incredibly thoughtless. I had been willing to order something else and take the loss on the salad, but her blatant laziness and complete disregard for our experience made it impossible to continue dining there.
To make matters worse, her behavior appeared discriminatory. Sabrina gave noticeably better service to other tables while ignoring ours. This level of unprofessionalism and apparent racism is absolutely unacceptable. I left Tequila Willie's feeling deeply disrespected and shocked by the treatment we received.
This experience was not just disappointing—it was infuriating and offensive. I cannot recommend Tequila Willie's to anyone looking for a respectful and enjoyable dining experience. Avoid this place if you value decent service and...
Read moreToday was our first time dining at Tequila Willies. The atmosphere is nice; I'm sure on Friday evenings and weekends during the summer it's a lively place.
For $48 (without tip included), we had the Fiesta salad, shrimp street tacos, side of French fries, soft drink and a margarita-type drink, and upcharge for sauce for the fries. Portions are huge, almost too large and the food quality was unfortunately not great. The Spanish rice served with the street tacos was the best part, very tasty.
I asked for no tomatoes or peppers with my salad, and Dustin confirmed, but when the meal came out, the salad was covered in diced tomatoes and sliced peppers. Unfortunately, Dustin, although friendly, never checked on us again until it was time for our check (despite checking on tables on the deck numerous times we witnessed), so I didn't get an opportunity to let him know the kitchen made it with the ingredients I can't eat.
My mother enjoyed the street tacos and her margarita drink. The French fries were in a huge portion but came out cold. Again, if we had been checked on we could have discreetly mentioned this. Additionally, we didn't get drink refills. Dustin was very nice and maybe today was an off day, but he was inattentive to us as the one table inside. It's simple but customers just want to feel seen. Furthermore, I saw him on his cell phone behind the bar, and although I understand we're humans and have lives, but when customers feel ignored, behaviors like that hurt the business. Again, maybe today was an off day and we unfortunately received poor service.
I'm glad we tried Tequila Willies today, however we wouldn't return and I don't recommend the restaurant when there are superior establishments with better food and more attentive service nearby in Harrisburg, Lemoyne and...
