First off, the staff is very welcoming and the service is excellent. We did not wait longer then 15 mins for our food considering there was a pretty full house. I ordered the carne asada platillo. The steak was juicy and seasoned well. The plating allows the juices from the steak to run off the plate and possibly on your lap so be careful. You can tell that it's grilled but it doesn't have the taste of charcoal. So for those of you expecting the taste of a grilled charcoal taste this is not it. I believe it's gas grilled. The rice was a little garlicky but the beans were great. Definitely home made food. The salsas were ok. Did the job but not really flavorful. Also I think they should use ketchup style bottles instead of syrup bottles/holders (I don't know the proper name for them) Whenever we're at a breakfast restaurant we just say, can you pass me the syrup? 😆 The salsa landed everywhere but my food. As you can see in the photo I did not finish my Michelada. It's been a long time since that happened. I like fresh lime for my drinks. I cannot say they don't have it already freshly squeezed into a bottle and then used as needed but it does get bitter if you have it in a bottle too long. I like my limes squeezed fresh from a cut lime. It tasted exactly like the green bottled lime juice that you buy in the store. We also ordered tacos de carne asada that actually decent and plated nicely. My son said he would return to eat those. The tostada chips they give you as an appetizer with salsa is basic. The taste of the salsa is like a Lalo's, Pepe's or tex mex type salsa. The horchata had a lot of cinnamon but wasn't super sweet. So out of everything we ordered today I would only go back for the steak, steak tacos and excellent service. Because of the excellent service I would return to try other items on the menu. Salsa is what makes food excellent. I would need a better salsa. Get rid of the wooden plates and salsa dispensers. Other than that in my opinion you guys are awesome and made my family feel at home. Below is a rating of the food.

Read moreLa Cocina de Mama is a gem nestled in Oak Lawn, IL, and my recent visit left me thoroughly impressed. The restaurant exudes a fresh and welcoming atmosphere, with its pristine interiors that seemingly speak of its newness. The cleanliness of the establishment added to the overall positive experience.
Upon being greeted by the friendly staff, I was promptly served a delightful portion of fresh, hot chips paired with salsa bursting with flavor. The chips were perfectly salted, enhancing their crispiness, while the salsa boasted a freshness that invigorated the taste buds.
For my main course, I indulged in their Taco Tuesday dinner plate special, which featured three impeccably seasoned beef tacos accompanied by a side of beans and rice. Each taco was a harmonious blend of flavors, and the beans and rice complemented them wonderfully. The food was served promptly and arrived piping hot, further enhancing its appeal.
What truly elevated my dining experience was the exceptional service provided by our server. Their warmth and attentiveness added an extra layer of enjoyment to the meal, and it was evident that the entire staff took pride in their work, as evidenced by the smiles on their faces throughout our visit.
To top off our delightful meal at La Cocina de Mama, we couldn't resist indulging in their fried ice cream for dessert, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Served on a bed of decadent chocolate and caramel, the fried ice cream was a delightful combination of crispy exterior and creamy interior, creating a perfect contrast in textures that tantalized the taste buds.
What elevated this dessert even further was the exquisite presentation. A beautiful orchid delicately adorned the top, adding a touch of elegance to the dish and enhancing its visual appeal.
The combination of flavors and textures in this dessert was a true treat for the senses, and it served as a perfect conclusion to our exceptional dining experience at La Cocina de Mama.
Overall, La Cocina de Mama exceeded my expectations in every aspect. From the inviting ambiance to the delicious food and impeccable service, it's a restaurant I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone craving Mexican cuisine served with a side of...
Read moreWe went over the weekend, and we always try new places. This was one of the worst restaurants we visited. Sure, the restaurant was clean and inviting, but that's it. The food was pretty bad, my boyfriend ordered pozole, and it was bland, no salt no seasoning whatsoever and it seemed like they counted the kernels because I swear there where like 20 kernels floating around with some chicken and we where not impressed at all. I ordered chiles rellenos, so here is where it gets funny, they were full of seeds, they where stuffed with bland cheese and seeds, it takes 2 seconds to remove, a few is normal, but all the seeds? And the egg they were coated in tasted like nothing, ohh here are my 2 favorite parts (sarcastic) the sauce that goes with the chiles tasted really bad, like canned American sauce from the store. And the beans were spoiled, I knew they tasted off. They tasted a bit sour and like water was added. I made the mistake of taking my leftovers home, when I was transferring the some of the beans at home I noticed they had changed color, I tasted them and they where 100% bad, I threw it all out. And this was a $20 dish!!! I did leave a pile of seeds, sauce and most of the beans on the plate so hopefully, someone noticed. They spent so much time and money on presentation with the flowers and the funny looking glasses that they forgot to 1. Taste they're own food and 2. To buy salt. We will NOT be returning. Before the owner comes and responds and try to defend from this post, I recommend you taste your food 1st. Don't be blinded by pride. Stop putting the salsa in those containers because 1. It's not for that, and 2. The salsa doesn't even come out. Instead of seasoning the chips, use it in the food instead. Smh, very...
