The onion rings are very clearly freshly made and hand battered, radiating heat and comfort. Handmade onion rings are often concomitant with gaps in the battering, which is slightly present here. There are four onion rings of mostly consistent size, with one smaller outlier.
The color is golden brown with a few spare knobs of burnt and slightly blackened bits of batter. They arrive served in a black plastic basket with the requisite wax paper lining, simple yet effective. More importantly, it is consistent with the ethos of Wing Doozy: unpretentious and utilitarian.
The batter is soft, bordering on creamy, with the characteristic quasi-buttery smoothness of hot, fresh batter. They manage to avoid a deluge of grease, the buttery batter melding with the taste of the juicy onion. The seasoning is well balanced: salted, but not to an extreme, with a hint of peppery bark.
The batter is a little overpowering compared to the onion taste, almost hidden and muted in the presence of its power. In a rarity, one of the onion rings has a doubled onion center, which I commonly find in frozen rings but almost never find in the hand-dipped varietal.
The batter remains the star of these onion rings with its textural heights. It is both soft and ever-so-slightly crispy. The onions err a little towards hard compared to soft, but the juices mesh well with the batter.
The batter is a little hard, with hints of shedding overcoming its natural cohesion. I'm reminded almost like a smooth leather, or a turtle's egg, as these onion rings seem vaguely natural rather than artificial or machine-made.
These onion rings are priced at the somewhat standard premium price point of $1 per ring. I don't think they quite rise to that level, but they're certainly a step above the bland, mass-produced morass that makes up much of the onion ring offerings of the world. There's a somewhat diminished onion taste present in these rings, and they're certainly missing the potential enhancements from a quality dip, but these are an ample...
Read moreFirst time visiting Wing Doozy in Wyoming and definitely won’t be back. The wife and I were super excited but after this experience I’ll stick to some bdubs instead.
I placed my order at 7:17 and was told it would be ready at 7:50. We got there at 7:40, and at 8:05 I decided to call and check in on our order since we hadn’t been checked in on and it was 15 minutes past the ready time. The young lady we spoke to said it would be out in 5 minutes, but at 8:15 still nothing. I called and spoke to her again and was transferred to someone else (mind you we can see everything since we’ve been sitting in front of the door the whole time). This young man said my order was cold since it had been sitting there so long so it would need to be remade. After asking to take it as is, and being repeatedly told it would need to be remade a THIRD person told me that they actually gave my order to someone else and my food wasn’t even ready. At this point it’s 8:30. So not only have I wasted an additional 40minutes but their only solution was to give me a free side or meal the next time I visited.
Why on earth would I visit again after this terrible experience? I had to ask for a refund 3 times before they finally said it was ok (at first they said they couldn’t since it was past closing time) but I had already prepaid and was not interested in waiting even longer for this food to FINALLY be cooked.
So now it’s 8:30 and I still have no dinner.
Don’t waste your time on such poor customer service. No wings are worth...
Read moreThis location has gone way downhill since it opened. Its 85+ degrees outside and the air didn't seem to be on, we may have eaten there instead of taking out if it was comfortable. We ordered food, cashier didn't know menu items.as well as was having a conversation with another employee that seemed more important than our order. We sat down to wait for our take out order the tables were very sticky and dirty, given we counted 12 staff members in the back I'm not sure why the dining room was neglected. No gloves used at all as well as a staff member sneezing all over with out covering. One of the front counter girls was on her cell phone the whole time. We witnessed a family come in with McDonald's for their kids (apparently that is fine with management). When our order was done we were called, we went to the counter only to be called again because no one behind the counter looked up to see we were already there to get our order. Then after we got their attention then they unpacked our order and repackaged it before giving it to us....she didn't even wait long enough to answer my question if everything was in one bag. Overall impression was that the employees were there to socialize and hang out, flirt etc. but not wait on customers. Unfortunately, we will not be back and will look for...
