Olympia Restaurant & Tavern — Restaurant in Yarmouth

My wife and I weren’t acknowledged to be seated for 5 minutes near the entrance. Once finally seated, took 10-15min just to have someone come take our order down. I ordered pancakes and a side of home fries, my wife ordered egg and cheese sandwich. After waiting for 30-40min (restaurant was half empty) for our food to come out, my wife’s order was inaccurate. They put bacon on hers (she doesn’t eat pork) and they forgot my side of home fries. Pancakes were good, her egg and cheese was minimal. We ate quickly and called for the check to just get out. Waitress brought the check over and gave us the wrong one (check was from 10:24 am and we were there at 11:15). I brought it to her attention and it seemed like she lost our ticket. When we finally got a new one, we were overcharged (we ordered just 1 coffee but were charged for 2, charged for home fries that never came). Instead of waiting another 15-20 min to fix the ticket because we were so fed up, we paid the over charge and quickly left. Staff acknowledged us leaving but could pickup our vibes that it was unpleasant. As a restaurant owner myself, this is disappointing and we won’t ever be back. Hope they can get it together. Every year my family’s fall girls trip would take us here for breakfast. It was ok, but service was always slow. This week we decided to try it for lunch.

We ordered a fish sandwich, no fries but coleslaw, and an order of fish and chips. You could hear the kitchen ringing the bell to say our food was ready, but the two ladies working the front ignored it for quite a while. The bell ran at least 3 times over the span of several minutes.

Eventually a plate of food came and the waitress said this is the fish and chips, it wasn’t. It was the sandwich. It came with fries (she blamed the kitchen) and so she gave me a plate to take the fries from my mom. My fish and chips (minus the fries since I had to take them from the other plate) eventually came 5 minutes later. One piece was good, the other was tough and not hot.

Now I’m no food magazine reviewer, but I adore food and know my way around it. Some reviews mention the poor portion sizes surrounding shrimp, or other seafood. And they are accurate in saying this place skimps out. That’s not even prompting my review though. It is the food quality. The onion rings had literally 0 flavor and were just a sopping mess of oil, flour breading, and wet onion. Hardly received any fries in the seafood platter but those were bland and just odd as well. Overdone (not in a good, crunchy way) yet soggy in some spots. Not judging this restaurant on a Caesar salad, but just saying, that wasn’t good at all. Burger was a good size and all around fine but nothing worth recommending.
