Tampopo Sushi — Restaurant in Yorba Linda

The food was pretty good, not amazing, but good.

Service was a little lacking, first the took forever to take our order, then when it came, they delivered it to the wrong table. The servers do not know how to place food, so they reach between people to hand the food over to the far side of the table rather than placing plates from behind and directly in front of the guest. I believe the food should be placed from guest's right. I digress, this isn't formal dining, it just annoys me when waitresses crowd me to stretch and reach all the way across the table to deliver food to the other side.

Waitresses were not around to refill drinks or even check on us.

The restaurant is a little pricey, all of the rolls are above what I am accustomed to paying, even from nicer restaurants. I also noticed that unlike most sushi restaurants I have been to, they do not include Miso soup.

I had a great experience. I had a cactus roll, some sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and gyoza, so I got to try almost everything. My verdict is they do very innovative things with unamazing ingredients. That's my docked star from this review. It was fresh fish, it just wasn't really high quality; not super flavorful. That being said, it only really affected the sashimi. Don't come here for straight sushi, but do come here if you like rolls. Oh my goodness, the rolls here make the place! They have like 50 different rolls, cold and hot, fish and not, pure and creative: all kinds of rolls. They make up their own and they're very creative. Try the hot rolls!

Also it's a Korean place, so if for some reason you need your sushi place to be run by Japanese people, this isn't your place. It's not a bad thing, they have great...

The sushi was good quality, the non sushi options could've used some work. The vegetables were unseasoned (not even salt added) and quite bland. The teriyaki chicken was able what you would expect from a Pick up Stix. Flame Broiler does a better job. The service left something to be expected. We kept having to flag the server down for more water, we had to remind them that we ordered the edemame, and had to ask them for soy sauce.
