Avalon Downtown Pizzeria — Restaurant in Youngstown

I have eaten here many times and think it's probably the best pizza in Youngstown. But tonight when my wife and I came in for dinner, not only were we basically ignored by the wait staff despite sitting in plain sight of them for almost a half-hour, we also got to watch the tables on either side of us get waited on repeatedly. A worker comes and hands us plates and placemats, and then nothing, zip, zilch. Meanwhile, the other tables around us are visited multiple times by the staff. After watching this three or four times we just got up and left and went across the street to another restaurant.

I really hate giving bad reviews, and it's a shame because my other visits here have been really positive ones. And their pizza really is amazing, especially the Brier Hill. It may be a while before we're back, but hopefully next time is as good as my previous visits.

EDIT #2: I am editing my previous review (on a positive note) as we did decide to give Avalon Downtown another try recently, and our experience was MUCH better than it was our previous visit (when I initially wrote this review). It was really busy, yet we were served very quickly, the pizza was very hot and fresh (and tasty, as is always the case here). I guess everyone is entitled to an off day, and maybe that was the case during our first visit. First of all, hands-down, the environment was very clean and friendly. The waitress and staff were amazing. Secondly, let's dig into how delicious this pizza was. The sauce had a very sweet, thick tomato flavor. The crust on the pizza was very crispy and the dough was made to perfection!! 10/10!!! I had a cheese pizza and I got a cheese pull LOL! I haven’t had a cheese pull on a pizza in a long time 🤣💪🏾. Thirdly, the wings were very juicy and crispy as well. I think it's a great idea that they put the sauce on the side so that it doesn't make the chicken soggy, especially for customers who like takeout or delivery, in my opinion. I spent over $101.06. It was really worth it. 👌🏾 I had bought two pizzas, two orders of 12-piece wings, and two orders of fries for me and my friends. Last but not least, I wish I was able to take pictures of the food, but we ate it all. 🤣 But if I was able to go back and do it again, I would, but unfortunately, I live three hours away.
