Well, after a very long wait, with 6 other parties, who came after us, getting seated before us, we finally got seated. While we were waiting, I observed the Hostess, constantly pulling down her facemask to talk to the patrons, which was defeating the entire reason she was wearing the facemask!! We sat down in the freshly sanitized booth, gave our order, sat & watched all the goings on & sipped our water. Our Server brought me my salad, it was crispy, crunchy romaine, big cherry tomatoes, shredded carrot, many slices of cucumber & a side of blue cheese. It came with a corn bread muffin. I started to eat my salad, when my dining partner got miffed, he asked another server, why his salad wasn't served at the same time mine was. She graciously brought his salad out, which was the same salad as mine, but way bigger than mine, for some odd reason & he got 1000 Island with his. My Blue Cheese Dressing was the best I have ever tasted. We were eating our salad, when our food came out. That was fast cooking!I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, asked for a salad instead of squash or green beans, still got green beans. The Green beans were cooked in some kind of broth, with bacon & onion. I tasted one & it was good. I just don't like Green beans cooked that way. My Meatloaf was SO good, I cannot even describe it. 3 huge slabs, covered in brown gravy, with 2 onion rings on top. Please read the description, of the Meatloaf, on the menu photo!! The flavor was as if they had someones Great Grandmother, held captive in the Kitchen & she was using her Ancestors secret Meatloaf recipe! I kid you not, I truly can't say enough good about it. My Baked Potato was cooked as it should be & I smothered it in Butter & Sour Cream. My dining partner ordered Rib Eye Steak, a Baked Potato & Green Beans. He received mashed Potatoes with gravy & was not pleased, that he didn't get his baked potato, as he asked for. He did however, say his Rib Eye Steak was excellent. The staff was obviously stressed out, it was extremely hectic, but they were super nice & didn't take it out on each other, or on the clientele. I didn't give 5 stars for the issues outlined in my review. I would though, return for all the good things, outlined in my review. My only wish, is that we should have purchased one of their obviously decadent desserts, that we kept seeing, fly by. I am going to visit the one location, closer to home, just to try a dessert. Thank you Black Bear Diner Yreka, you...
Read moreLarge portions of mediocre at best food. Coffee is acceptable I guess. Worst thing about this location is the 1stall bathrooms, if you use them during busy times be prepared to have the door handle jiggled repeatedly while doing your thing & expect to exit to a line of mean mugging faces when you exit.
The thick cut bacon is rank! It doesn't even have that good bacon flavor, just ridiculously salty sodium nitrate cured taste. And does no short order cook know how to cook over-medium eggs any more? I am so sick of ordering medium eggs only to have them come out over-easy with the whites runny... Geez! The waitress took them back & brought back eggs that were better but overly browned from too high heat, cooking eggs is a lost art I swear. If you order scrambled or an omelette they will be processed, preservative laden, plastic eggs poured from a carton just to save labor cost & keep food cost down... Disgrace!
Biscuits & pancakes are just gigantic piles of dough with no love but at least they give you real butter with them & with toast instead of gross margarine blend spread that still seams to be so popular. & ditch the Bear branded hot sauces & stick with the proven originals.
I really don't understand how B.B. Diner has grown to become such a large chain with such lackluster quality food with no love. They could be so much better! This will be my last visit to any of their locations around the West. Give me Cracker Barrel any day, it has that downhome feel but with much higher quality & tastier food.
2-stars for the server being attentive & for the real butter, otherwise this would be a 0-star review or 1 only because Google requires it. For all those who love this place with 4 & 5 stars... I'm...
Read moreSecond time in 2 months I've stayed in Yreka and gone to Black Bear diner. Last time had to seat myself and once I finally got someone to wait on me I waited over 40 minutes for my food to arrive after I ordered it.
Tonight is my second visit, stood at the front waiting to be seated as one after another waitresses continued to walk past me, not one said anything, not even a "we will be with you in a moment". Finally by a miracle I get offered a menu and sat. Table is filthy, trash left and food stuck to the seats, old straw wrapper laying on my fork. I sat and waited as waitress after waitress walked past, even taking an order from the gentlemen directly behind me, yet not one time did anyone say it will be just a moment or we will be right with you, not even a drink order, just walked on past over and over. I finally put my menu down hoping that would motivate the staff, still nothing so I got up and walked out, not one word, nothing, as if I didn't even exist.
Black Bear diner has many great establishments all over the West and I've been to many, even the one next to my home in Arizona and not one of them has ever treated me so poorly and been so disconnected from its customers or as filthy as the one in Yreka. Honestly management should take a good hard look at who they have representing their establishment. Two chances in two months, sadly there will not be a third visit, as I will not give them my time or money again at...
