Definitely not a 5 star place. I'm not sure if their patrons don't know what fine dining is or the expectations are generally lower in Uruguay... Definitely of low standards for fine dining in the U.S. and other latin American countries (I.e. Argentina and Colombia). To start, our hors d'oeuvre appetizer/starter was rancid. We returned it and the chef recognized this. The ceviche appetizer was salty, so we also returned this. The meat (something Uruguayo) was delicious, but the crab ravioli was horrible. The service had lots to be desired for a fine dining restaurant. I'm not sure if this is an Uruguayan thing as ALL of the restaurants (more than 10) we went to had mediocre service when compared to the U.S. And other latin American countries (especially Colombia). Punta del Este is definitely an over...
Read moreWe chose Lo de Tere for our anniversary meal, and what a wonderful meal we had. There were plenty of sea food options on the menu, which we duly indulged in. For starter, we shared their selection of different fish (De Nuestra Costa), a mixture of some hot and some cold - a great way to begin. For the main, one of us went for fish with rice (corvina in this case) and the other grilled fish (I can’t recall the name) and both were fantastic. Everything was fresh, very well cooked and delicious. The wine we selected was a good match for the dishes we had, attentively topped up by our very friendly waiter. Dessert is always a must for us, so we tried their dulce de leche and torta vasca, was down with a nice port too. A wonderful evening, and we highly recommend this...
Read moreIncredibly overpriced for very lackluster flavors. Got the Shrimp appetizer, octopus apetizer, and a fish entree. All of which looked good but had very little flavor and all needed salt and pepper for any flavour. In addition, the shrimp were not of good quality and a little fishy tasting. To top it off, when the bill came, they charged us $22 for "cubiertos" which was a bunch of bread that we hardly even touched (and that was put on our table without asking us) and also charged $6 for tap water! Never ever even in America have I been charged so much for what is almost always free at 99.99% of places in the world. Only highlight was the dulce de leche and banana dessert with dessert tannat wine. otherwise, absolutely a disappointment and not worth the...
