Maybe avoid eating here past 8pm cause I think most dishes worth eating are probably already sold out. We arrived at 9.15pm but most dishes were gone. We proceeded to still give it a try since the menu looked good. In a nutshell, they offer too many things on the menu. They should just remove the dishes that they dont do well and only keep the dishes that are excellent. They spread themselves too thin and aren't able to deliver and execute. Most expensive restaurant meal we had so far in Da Nang, and it was the most disappointing and underwhelming for 1.1million dong Grilled Duck done two ways on the seasonal menu. Couldnt taste the duck fat, underseasoned, lacking depth, meat was hard and dry like it had been prepared a day or two earlier and been left around in the fridge with no airtight container, mulberry itself and mulberry sauce was yummy but maybe if it was more liquid and less thick then perhaps it would penetrate better into the super dry duck. Should have had salt in the duck, it was rolled in the skin that was too chewy and thick. If the skin was thinner, more crispy then it would have been better. The cucumber and carrot accompanying the dish was cut too thick. The pumpkin soup with pork was bland and underwhelming. The grilled lemongrass chicken with sticky rice was recommended to us, but the chicken skin was so chewy and hard, the meat was dry, lacked moisture and umami of chicken flavour. Also the chicken was cut too thick. Chewy dry coupled with sticky rice wasnt a good combo in texture and the rice was lacking flavour too. The only thing that was yummy was the pork belly with fish sauce, vermicelli, and perilla leaf, but this is a dish we can find elsewhere, and it's not unique to this restaurant. Definitely won't be coming back since there were so many things wrong in 3 out of 4 dishes, the execution was just poor overall. I think the waiters tried hard to recommend some things to us, considering how many things were sold out, so props to them for that. One of the waiters thought that we wouldnt like the pork belly because we are foreigners, but I dont think the waiters are that experienced and perceptive to understand the type of customers that come through the door and the type palete and the expectation of different type of customers? I think it wouldn't have mattered what they recommended or didn't recommend to us if most of their dishes were delicious to begin with. I went to this place without knowing it was awarded a michelin star. With or without a michelin star, the expectations were high due to the good reviews and the menu reading so well. Overall it was a ripoff and I had really good meat at a local place for just 60k for a main during lunch, comparing it to the 350k duck i just had here, it is quite shocking i had to pay for something executed so poorly.

We saw a large rat (around 35-40cm) run onto the drinks bar. We then spotted a dead ant in our soup while eating it. I do not recommend this restaurant at all, as it clearly has an unresolved and severe pest and hygiene issue. As we were eating our dinner, I noticed something moving in the corner of my eye, and realized it was a large rat. It crawled out from the gap between the decorative wooden board on the wall, and then proceeded to run onto the drinks bar countertop, disappearing under afterwards. This wall was right next to tables where guests would dine at. It was empty when we were there, thankfully. Afterwards, we also noticed more gaps on the decorative pieces in the restaurant, for example on the corner of the bar table that looks suspiciously chewed by a rat. We also noticed rat poison placed in corners around the restaurant. We chose to dine at Luk Lak because of its Michelin guide recognition. After seeing the large rat, we were very disappointed in how little respect the establishment treated this acknowledgement from Michelin. We understand rodent problems are common in cities worldwide, and hence rely on the Michelin recognition when traveling to direct us to places that are attentive towards not only its flavors but its hygiene and restaurant operations as well. I hope in future this restaurant properly addresses its concerning hygiene issues, and treats its Michelin guide recognition with care. A Michelin recognition in any form is encouragement to strive to do better, not to slack off once obtained. Guests deserve this respect at the very least, especially when traveling from abroad. Notwithstanding the rat sighting and dead ant in our soup, the food was flavorful. Staff service was good too.

After having a horrible experience arriving at a different Michelin Bib Gourmand venue down the road, we walked down to Luk Lak and it was one of the best decisions of our Vietnam trip. The multiple staff at the other place were focused solely on ushering in huge droves of tourists in buses, we were told to wait with no indication of how long, even when we could see more than half the tables were empty. As a group of two. Now, onto Luk Lak, we were greeted kindly and asked where we would like to sit. The server even advised us the duck platter we selected would take 45min and if we had somewhere to go, that it may not be suitable. He even gave me tips for taking the best images of the spring rolls that were presented beautifully. The team here are graceful and calm, truly prioritising the service experience that compliments their refined and elegant dishes, without any expectation of promoting their restaurant. It is easy to fall into the trap of allowing Google to guide your trip when sadly most of the these reviews of highly rated hotspots are often compensated or incentivised, as I quickly learned arriving into some of these spots. The staff here not once mentioned to leave a review or offer discount, and still presented the best food we had in Vietnam! I don’t normally leave reviews and I was not asked to, but I cannot help but feel compelled to commend Luk Lak for the delicious food and fantastic genuine experience that stood out on our trip. The duck thigh was seasoned and smoked beautifully with plenty of duck meat. Brown rice was fluffy light and chewy, exceptionally nutritious and delicious. The ingredients were great quality and all the food was presented beautifully.
