Joma Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Hà Nội

It's been awhile since I last visited the place. I always want to support this business as they advertise about their community support with 10% of their profit. But today is more than a disappointment to me. The soup is way too soggy and full of spicy pepper. I cried trying to finish it because of the strong, thick peppery taste while thinking about how much I just had to pay for it. The tacos are hard and tasteless. The mango tea looks good but is completely bland, taste like water with mango and vanilla flavor. I think the vanilla doesn't go well with mango tea anyway. 75k for the tea, 99k for the taco soup - completely waste of money.

Talking about the staff, the person who took my order was so rude to me, showing no interest in introducing the products or serving the customer. When I asked her what was special here, or what she suggested as a drink if I didn't drink coffee. She said, 'all on the menu, please read'. She kept frowning each time I asked for more information about the dish and drink. She just wanted to get done with the payment and quickly turned away. Other staff were folding her legs on the bench, chilling along the hallway, playing on her phone, paid no attention or greeting as customers passed by.

The furniture is so old and the new grey couch doesn't resonate with the old wooden brown furniture's color and style. All the decorations don't match or are not with the same style. The glass door looks uncleaned. The shop isn't busy but no staff wants to clean a little bit of it, or at least wipe off the water stain.

The bakery stands are blurry or empty. I can't see what's inside through the fog on the glass. The cookies stand is pretty empty. No background music is being played. Very few customers. The whole place feels too empty and sad.

While sitting on the first floor waiting for my grab ride. I overheard a conversation between some staff with a grad delivery guy who came for a cake. The grab driver was concerned about how to save the cake during the ride and wonder if the stafd could have some idea or help him tide it up on his bike to avoid ruining it. The staff answer, 'It's not our problem, you should ask the guy who book the ride from you, we just sell the cake and that's it, the rest is not our job.'

Compared to other Google reviews over the past year, the current team here has their act in gear. I came in on a mid afternoon because I heard good things about their bagels and wanted to try.

The onsite manager was more than helpful when I needed assistance using the web app for the first time to place my order, because I’m interested to see how their rewards system works. Good thing there was nobody in line behind me because it took them about 4 minutes~ this is one area all staff could probably use training, especially on the payment part for using pre-paid balances.

The English muffins to go are enormous compared to typical sizes in Canada but wow they are delicious once you get them home and air fry them with a topping of melted butter.

I ended up trying the cinnamon bun and maple donut which were 5/5. My original plan was stopped short for me due to the price points and perhaps I will return with friends or family on more special gatherings, but eating alone I’m not used to these price points personally in Hanoi. Also it’s a shame the first time customer discount does not get applied when using the web app.

Overall positive experience, I agree with one other reviewer that the interior doesn’t match my personal taste for modern and inspiring, but it also isn’t below average.

Food tastes fine, not great not terrible but service was horrific. I ordered a mac and cheese from the pasta menu and it clearly said at the top "all pastas come with garlic bread", they brought out a very small bowl of Mac and cheese and no garlic bread, I assumed it was coming afterwards. I ate the Mac and cheese, garlic bread still hasn't come, I ask at the counter when the complimentary garlic bread is coming, the girl in a very lazy, can't be bothered attitude says to me that my pasta doesn't come with garlic bread because it is served in a bowl! I point out that I ordered from the pasta menu and it clearly said "ALL pastas" and she then changed her answer to say that because it was macaroni that doesn't class as pasta! She refused to give it to me and so I gave up but the attitude on her gave me the distinct impression it had just been forgotten and she couldn't be bothered to correct the mistake.
