I've been 3 times to Quiri for 2 dinners and a coffee. The first time I went I ordered a seafood curry which was really good. When they bring your food all the waiters say" if you're not happy let me know and I'll put it right or change it", which is really nice. After I'd eaten it I asked to see the menu again. The waiter pointed to a chalk board that said after 9pm they only serve alcohol. I was a bit miffed because I wanted a dessert and coffee. When I had paid for my meal I said how good it had been but I was upset I couldn't have a dessert and coffee. It was 9.15pm. He said oh you can have dessert but not coffee. I recommended the restaurant to 2 friends and showed them where it was, but I just had a coffee with them because I was eating later with another friend. We ordered our main meal sharing a BBQ which you cook at the table. We were a bit disappointed because the portions we got were smaller and looked different to the pictures in the menu. We each ordered a dessert. My friend ordered tirimusu. When she got it she was disappointed. It looked like a chocolate mousse, and didn't taste like it should. It had no lady fingers. She asked the waitor what was in it. He beckoned another waitress over and they talked in vietmanese for a good 5 minutes. She looked on her phone and said it was made with cocoa and cream cheese. My friend said that's a cheesecake not tirimusu I'm disappointed. The waitor talked for another 5 minutes and then took it away. My friend had eaten 2 teaspoons of it. She wasn't asked if she wanted anything else and the way her complaint was dealt with was very poor. None of this "if you're not happy we will put it right for you or change it". When we finished our cocktails we asked for the bill. We went to the counter to pay. The tirimisu was sat on the counter. When we checked the bill we had been charged for it. The owner/ manager was there. Another 10 minute discussion took place. He said vietmanese tirimisu was a different recipe. He wouldn't give us a refund because he said a lot had been eaten. To be fair our waiter I think ,said in vietmanese it was a small portion. The manager/ owner argued some more and then showed us a picture of vietmanese tirimusu. The picture had lady fingers in it and looked different to what we had been given. He reluctantly then took it off the bill. It is such a shame that the complaint was dealt with like that. If they stood by what they tell you when you order your food ie. if youre not happy well put it right, it wouldn't have left such a bitter taste. I won't eat there again now, only because how poorly they dealt with the complaint. The first meal I had was lovely, but we shouldn't have had to have two 10 minute conversations about why the chocolate cheesecake/ mousse wasn't a tirimusu and then be charged for it too. If they had just said sorry you don't like it do you want something else instead, we would have left happily. The customer service in this instance was...
Read moreSome good things to say about this restaurant, but I have to give it 3 stars.
All of the staff are very kind. I was staying at the hotel, and since the restaurant wasn't too crowded, I wanted to do some work while having dinner and a drink. One of the staff got me an extension cord and set up a fan so I'd be comfortable. I really appreciated this. Overall, the ambiance is also excellent and the environment feels very relaxed.
I ordered the beef noodles. It didn't have too much beef and I didn't find the flavor too exciting, so I was a little disappointed in this dish. I also ordered sweet potato fries but they forgot about the order. I enjoyed the watermelon juice.
The menu states that if you book a tour with them, you get a free beer. When I asked for my free beer, they said this was only for restaurant goers who aren't staying at the hotel, because hotel guests are "already getting a discount." I could not figure out what I was supposedly getting a discount on, and was disappointed not to get the free beer.
My biggest gripe with this establishment was a very bizarre experience over dinner. One of the staff has a very cute 4 year old daughter who wanted to play with me. I love kids, but I am on vacation and was actually trying to work at the time. The child came to my table and tried to sit next to me, but my backpack was on the chair. The worker moved the chair with my stuff on it and pulled up an empty chair right next to me for the child to sit!!! She proceeded to be a four year old, banging forks and knives on the table, trying to talk to me, trying to give me things. I was wearing earbuds and tried to ignore her, but to no avail. I told the man, "she's very cute but a little distracting." He tried to shush her, but nothing more. Finally, when my food came, I motioned to waiter to pick her up and carry her away, which he did.
This was SO unacceptable! I am a solo female traveler, not a babysitter!! Even if I hadn't been trying to work, I would not have wanted to share my meal with a toddler. The kid is cute, but travelers should not be forced to provide free entertainment to someone else's kids! I hope they do not do this to another traveler.
Keep in mind, they charge 3% for card. If you book excursions, this will also be charged 3%, which can really add up. Make sure you have cash and be careful if you sign up...

During our three-day stay at the Quiri Bar Restaurant and Hotel in Cat Ba, my wife and I were impressed by the exceptional service and accommodations. The hotel, a modern yet cozy family-run establishment, offers just 10 air-conditioned rooms, ensuring a personal touch and attention to detail. Nestled in a quieter part of the village, right next to the bay, the location is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat and still in the vicinity of the village centre.
Our room was modern, immaculately clean, and comfortably cool. The food was a highlight with the breakfast, coffee, and dinner all being outstanding. The service was exceptional at every turn, with the friendly staff going above and beyond to cater to our needs.
The hotel reception was particularly helpful, arranging a motorcycle rental for us, and swiftly organizing a fuel refill when we ran low during a trip to the nearby caves. This seamless service allowed us to explore the area without any stress.
Additionally, the private boat tour around the archipelago, arranged by the hotel, was a standout experience. It was just the two of us, away from the crowds, with a romantic swim on a secluded beach—an unforgettable highlight of our trip.
All in all, Quiri Bar Restaurant and Hotel is more than just a place to stay; it's a gateway to a fantastic Cat Ba experience, thanks to its wonderful staff and excellent facilities.
Highly recommended for anyone...
