Gem Hostel — Hotel in Hải Phòng

This was the first time I’ve ever been ripped off during a trip to Cát Bà.

Typically, rooms in this price range cost around 450,000 – 500,000 VND per night. However, this time, when I contacted the hotel owner directly, he quoted me 900,000 VND. I assumed it was due to peak season, and the photos looked decent, plus the hotel had good reviews on Google. So I went ahead without double-checking the price on booking apps — partially my own mistake.

But when I arrived, I was completely shocked. The “hotel” turned out to be nothing more than a guesthouse, with a café in front and clearly part of someone’s home.

The room was unbearably hot, and the air conditioner barely worked no matter how long it ran. I asked to switch rooms, and the owner said he only had one without a view, in a lower category. But honestly, the original room didn’t have a view either — and it was roasting.

Hygiene was terrible: the bed sheet had sand on it, the pillows were dirty and smelled bad, and there were no basic amenities — not even a comb or a bottle of water.

I asked the front desk to replace the pillow or sheet, and they just handed me one replacement pillow — that’s it.

Because it was so bad, I decided to cut my stay short, staying only one night instead of two. I informed the owner in advance, and he said “OK.” But when I checked out, he still charged me the full 900,000 VND, saying there was no discount because I switched to a lower category room.

After I returned home, I checked again and found that the actual room rate was only around 450,000 – 500,000 VND per night. It turns out the owner had deliberately doubled the price, which honestly feels like blatant scamming.

This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in Cát Bà. The room was not worth the price at all, the service was poor from start to finish, and the owner’s way of doing business was...

Đây là lần đầu tiên tôi bị chặt chém khi đi Cát Bà. Thông thường, phòng ở phân khúc này dao động từ 450.000 – 500.000đ/đêm. Vậy mà lần này, khi tôi hỏi trực tiếp qua chủ khách sạn, giá được báo lên tới 900.000đ. Tôi nghĩ do mùa cao điểm nên cũng tặc lưỡi chấp nhận, với nhìn hình ảnh trông cũng đẹp và google có đánh giá tốt. (Không hiểu sao đánh giá tốt được nữa) Một phần do lỗi của mình không kiểm tra lại kỹ trên app. Nhưng khi đến nhận phòng, tôi thật sự sốc. Khách sạn chẳng qua là 1 nhà nghỉ, bên ngoài là quán cà phê nhà dân. Phòng thì nóng điên, điều hoà thì chạy mãi không mát thì mình mới yêu cầu đổi sang phòng khác. Anh chủ bảo là đổi sang phòng khác thì k có view hạng phòng thấp hơn. Nma thôi phòng này cũng chả có view gì, lại còn nóng. Vệ sinh cực kỳ kém: ga giường dính cát, gối thì đen và hôi, thiếu đồ dùng cá nhân như lược, đến chai nước cũng không có :))) Tôi yêu cầu lễ tân hỗ trợ thay gagối, thì chỉ mang ra đúng một cái gối thay rồi thôi Vì quá tệ, tôi quyết định chỉ ở lại 1 đêm thay vì 2 đêm như dự kiến và đã báo trước với chủ. Anh chủbảo “ok”, nhưng khi trả phòng vẫn tính đủ tiền 900.000đ (không giảm 100k Vì Giảm hạng phòng). Sau khi về, tôi tra lại thông tin thì phát hiện giá gốc khách sạn chỉ khoảng 450.000 – 500.000đ/đêm. Hóa ra, chủ khách sạn đã cố tình nâng giá lên gấp đôi – không khác gì lừa đảo trắng trợn. Đây là trải nghiệm tệ hại nhất tôi từng gặp khi du lịch Cát Bà. Phòng ốc không xứng đáng với mức giá, dịch vụ tệ từ đầu đến cuối, và cách làm ăn của chủ khách sạn thì rất thiếu trung thực. Hy vọng không ai gặp phải tình trạng...

I had an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment I checked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable, with all the amenities I could ask for. The hostel’s location was perfect for exploring the area, and I had no trouble getting to nearby attractions. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting . I’ll definitely be staying here again...
