Updated — after posting this original review, the owner did not contact me or reply to my Google app review. Instead, she found my mother on Facebook and sent her a message for the first time asking or commenting about why she would get a negative review. Honestly, it was just kind of funny since the review is from me and not my mother.

I proceeded to reach out via Facebook and communicate the reasons for the negative review, including her lack of smiling, friendliness, warmth, and kindness.

I asked why she contacted my mother and not me — I never received a response on Facebook. After that, I received the below reply from the owner, who says that I misunderstood her due to a language barrier.

Having lived in Vietnam for almost 7 years, I can assure you this was no language barrier issue. kindness is something that comes from the heart. Not through words, but through actions.

A good morning a smile and a friendly welcome to start your day is what I look for in my shops. This shop does not offer that. I visited on at least four occasions and felt welcome on zero.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This small, family-owned café on the main stretch of A Bang Beach is nothing more than OK.

Because it was located right next to our villa—where we stayed for over two months—we had hoped it would become our regular breakfast spot for coffee and croissants.

Unfortunately, the owner is a cold, unfriendly Vietnamese woman who seems more interested in quick tourist turnover than in creating any kind of warm atmosphere.

Despite seeing us almost daily, she never smiled, never greeted us, and was consistently unpleasant. Even on our last day, when we stopped by for one final takeaway coffee and kindly said goodbye, she couldn’t be bothered to show even basic friendliness. No smile. No warmth. No sign of the Vietnamese hospitality you find everywhere else in An Bang.

There are so many better options in the area. If you’re craving a great croissant, skip this place and look up Nine Grains Coffee—it’s not beachfront, but at least the team is warm and welcoming.

Skip, skip, skip. Again, just not friendly. Not warm. Not a nice way to start your day...

Unravel the mystery of authentic twists to the French cuisine.

Amazing food and lots of choices for vegetarians. Do give a shot to the authentic tofu dishes. The hot pot soup packs surprisingly tangy flavors. The Bahn Me I ordered was covered in peanuts and if you excuse the amount of lettuce used in the latter, it can give a tough competition to the Subway that I have always relished. The portions were generous and prices nearly half compared to what most average hotels and resorts charge nearby. The beer is served at the store prices (15-25k). I am guessing the restaurant is not saving anything on this. The waitress was super sweet and quite attentive to our customization requests as we do not eat meat. She did not charge us for the fruits. Going by experience of fellow visitors today, I am quite certain that the other treats in the menu tasted as much good. It's a warm and inviting place in a closely knitted neighbourhood. Though not so crowded at this time of the year, the loud music of karaoke from the adjacent restaurants and homestays did lend a vibrant feel to the overall experience. Definitely worth paying a visit if you are within 1-2 kilometers or visiting the An Bang beach. Kudos to the restaurant owners and staff for the culinary treats. We will...

Definitely the worst experience we’ve had in 2 weeks travelling Vietnam. I was extremely disappointed with both the food and service at this place. First, we waited well over an hour for our food to arrive one by one. Our kids sandwiches took 45 mins to arrive at the table first (there were 2 tables ahead of us) and then my wife’s dinner came about 15 mins later. My “fish” finally came about 10 mins after that. I say “fish” because at first I thought it was pork based on its texture. I’ve never had fish that didn’t have some flakiness to it. On top of that it was so salty I couldn’t eat it so I ordered another dish. They charged us for every dish we ordered which shouldn’t happen but not a huge deal. Overall, horrible service and food. Don’t go, so many other...

Really delicious restaurant, honestly best food i've had in the area so far and i've tried both other family run restaurants and more expensive spots in the immediate area/Hoi An. I tried their croissant with egg and avocado which was both delicious and surprisingly large, coffee was also solid. Went back for dinner and got the Vietnamese pancake. I was terrible at wrapping the pancake with herbs into the rice paper but i was too busy stuffing my face to care. Also ordered the pumpkin with peanuts which is also delicious but was too much food for me to eat so they kindly gave me a to go box. Appreciate the fruit platter they give to people complimentary at the end of dinner.

Despite the name, this is a simple family restaurant dishing out standard local favourites to a mostly Western clientele. They do adjust their food to be more suited to the Western palate, but that's not necessarily bad if it's done right, and while I'm still not sure about their egg dough Banh Xeo (literally pancakes) , I generally enjoyed the food. The Ngheu hap (steamed mussels in lemongrass broth) were fresh and authentic, the Cha gio tom(prawn rolls) came with salad and herbs and the fries were crispy and home made. Prices are modest and suitable for the location and ambiance, about 100 k per pax for a full meal with drinks.
