Not bad but it's definitely more of a novelty than it is a good banh mi, at least their special (đặc biệt) one The ingredients were good quality and fresh, but other than the pate, it was just really lacking flavor. What makes a banh mi great is the balance of different flavors and textures, but with so much meat it loses that balance since you really only taste the meat. It seemed to be missing some typical components like soy sauce and/or fish sauce as well or there just wasn't space for them (they do give you veggies on the side, but it's hard to squeeze many on), all of which really made it kinda bland actually.
I've tried dozens of banh mi places in the years I've lived here, and I'd only recommend this to someone who just wants to try a banh mi that's different (or who just wants one that's more filling than). Definitely don't be expecting to get an authentic banh mi or even one that's very flavorful. I'm guessing most of the 5 star reviews of this place are from tourists who don't really know what a good, real banh mi should taste like. If you want an authentic, good banh mi, just walk through a local neighborhood (look near markets) and find a stand...
Read moreBánh mì Bà Huỳnh (Madam Win) is quite a famous bánh mì shop in Saigon, always busy with both delivery drivers and walk-in customers.
🥖 The baguette is crispy on the outside and soft inside, with generous fillings — rich and flavorful meat, fresh cucumber, herbs, and pickled vegetables. It’s very filling, and the portion is so big that one person might not even be able to finish it! 🥬 My only small drawback is that the pickled vegetables are on the sweet side. Personally, I prefer them more sour as it helps cut through the richness.
👨👩👧👦 After dining in, we also ordered a couple more to take away for the family, and everyone was satisfied.
📦 I was pleasantly surprised by the takeaway packaging. Instead of just paper bags, they use proper boxes, and even separate the herbs and pickled vegetables individually — very neat, clean, and thoughtful.
💰 Small size is 50,000 VND, big size is 75,000 VND. Considering the District 1 location, portion, and packaging, I think the price is reasonable.
Overall, it’s a very good bánh mì experience. Definitely worth trying if you’re...
Read moreVery disappointed after reading all of the good reviews of this place. I went with two other people and we were all in agreement : it was bland and for the amount of meat, there was no flavor or balance to the ingredients. Yes, it was generous but we couldn't even finish our sandwiches because we realized it was far too rich and not flavorful whatsoever. We also thought it was odd that they put the fresh ingredients on the side and not in the sandwiches... We also got three iced coffees and it was the sweetest drinks we've had in over 3 weeks of traveling throughout Vietnam. It reminded us of the sandwiches and how there was no balance between the sweetness of the condensed milk and the bitterness of the coffee-- just super sweet drinks with super rich sandwiches.
The positive note was that we had good customer service and didn't have to wait a long time. However, we would never go back nor would we...
