In the centre of the Saigon’s famous backpacker area, 23/9 Park is a must know for anyone who travels to Ho Chi Minh City. This park is a great introduction to the vibrant commercial hub that is Saigon. Take a seat outdoors and watch or talk with a range of people from all over the world, speaking all sorts of different languages. The Saigonese use this park as an exercise ground, a meeting spot and a classroom. Groups of people gather here to talk and relax in the evenings, families bring their children to play under the trees and young couples hide in the shadows. On the weekend 23/9 Park is especially full, and every evening a number of ladies’ exercise classes take place which, with their booming dance beats and krumping middle-aged mothers, are seriously a must-see whilst you are in Ho Chi Minh City. Feel free to join if you wish! Groups of students studying English also visit this park regularly to talk with the travelers who seek refuge in its cool shade. Grab a bite to eat and a drink of water and take a seat next to the grass to wait for someone to approach you. They’re all very friendly and nice to talk to, and most will talk with foreigners in groups. They may even invite you for a beer or a smoothie after, or take you to their favourite eatery! Given its many groups of students, families and other locals, 23/9 Park is a good place to learn about local life when you visit Ho Chi Minh City. Sit in the shade of a tall tree and relish a momentary break from the chaotic streets of Vietnam’s busiest city, chat with someone new and learn about their life, plan your travels or enjoy a cool drink as you get ready to speak English to a smiling student.

Review by Khoi, Mon 13/11/2023 This has always been my favorite place to workout, get new friends, talk with foreigners for 8 years. I take pride in helping hundreds of people who want to visit Vietnam, starting from this park. For tourists, this is the place where you meet your new friendly locals. Their English is terrible, like me in the first few hundred conversations. They enjoy touching your hair, being curious with your skin color. They only know the words "black" and "white", because you're unique to us Vietnamese. I love this place so much because the root of my English stems from talking with you guys. Same goes for other locals 😊 For the locals, this is where you meet great people. Those who workout value their body, so most likely they're the most wholesome people you've ever met. This is me speaking from experience.

We visited the park on September 23rd, hoping to find the playground shown in pictures. Unfortunately, there was no playground. The exercise equipment was quite old, but I guess it’s better than nothing, right? Beware, though, we spotted quite a few mice around. Not recommended for children to play here. However, if your kids need a place to run around, this might still help 😂. Despite that, we still managed to have a good time!

Nice little park it’s really cool that they offer free exercise equipment for anyone to use out in nature. The plants and flowers are lovely tons of beautiful palm trees. My only complaint is how poorly locals treat this beautiful park. There was tons of people throwing garbage cigarette butts and food containers all around the park. I would also advise not to be in this park at night as there were quite a few vagrants.

It is beautiful here during Tet, here they sell all the flowers, orange trees and other decorations for the Tet holiday. There is usually a lot of young people here all year around that wants to talk to you. They come here to talk to the tourists for practicing there English. I recommend you take some time to talk to them if they are asking you if they can talk to you. It's always fun to speak to them for awhile.

The Park is right at the heart of the city - district one on Pha Ngulao Street. Well maintained fish pond, lots of outdoor gym equipment, lots of affordable drinking and eating joints not to mention it's proximity to the Central City bus station. Also lots of individual bus booking offices to Central and Northern Vietnam, not to forget booking offices for buses to Cambodia and Laos.
