Kohaku Sushi — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

There isn't a downside to this place. The wasabi is fresh and mindblowingly effective, if you know what I mean. The fish is ultra-fresh. I had some tuna sashimi and the only fresher tuna sashimi I've ever had was a 25lbs yellowtail I caught in Hawaii and had for lunch 3 hours later. I lived in Japan for 2 years and have had sushi all over the world. This is a clear top 5 location, if not #1. It was astoundingly good. They have a lot of specialty rolls and other foods that are amazing. For 2 people, we spent a little over $25 and had to be rolled out of the restaurant. Got the lunchsets each, with unagi and the one with gyudon steak. The pictures and the reality are quite different. The portions of the main ingredient is a lot less than on the picture. Unagi was just 1/3 of the size depicted on the menu. The gyudon steak was also a bit too tough. Salmon sashimi can be added for extra charge for the unagi set but the slices were tiny whereas the slices for my Partner's plate were a lot bigger. Weird.

It's not normal for Vietnam to add vat on top of the prices and no businesses should do it, they just disappoint the clients and no one will give tips above it. But at least the waiter specifically tell you the exact numbers before taking your order, so I don't feel scammed in this case. The food was good and the service quite attentive (though I didn't like they told me there were no tables, before looking, while I saw two walking there. Only after I told so they went to check and let me sit), though being in the middle of a mall kind of takes points off...
