Machida Shoten, a well-known ramen chain from Japan, unfortunately, left us underwhelmed on our recent visit. Despite high expectations, the overall dining experience fell short on several fronts.

The chashu, which should be tender and flavorful, was disappointingly dry and had an overpowering porky taste that was hard to overlook. Similarly, the chicken karaage, typically crispy and juicy, tasted stale, lacking the freshness that one would expect from a reputable chain. The tonkotsu broth was another letdown—it was both diluted and excessively salty, failing to deliver the rich, creamy depth of flavor that makes tonkotsu ramen so beloved.

The abura ramen was the sole redeeming dish of the evening, but even this decent offering wasn’t enough to salvage the overall experience. Additionally, we were caught off guard by the portion sizing, where the choice of noodle size also seemed to affect the quantity of toppings, which felt a bit deceptive.

To top it all off, the final bill came with a staggering 12% tax on top of an 8% tax. This double taxation felt exorbitant, especially considering the lackluster service provided. Given these disappointments, it’s safe to say we won’t be returning to Machida Shoten...

My gf and I were long-term fan of the place since it first opened in Ho Chi Minh city. However, today probably mark our end of future visit to this ramen shop with the following reasons: The food: so many disappointments. They changed all the ingredients and the style, it looks and taste completely different from what we had many times before (although the staff explained they changed the menu but it seems like they changed the recipes and probably the chef too). Even the noodles in our serving sticks together like it was not cooked well. The service: although the staff were quite nice and polite , but it seems like they were missing a bit flare comparing to before (maybe it was busy at the time I visited). They were more energetic before with all the loud greetings and goodbyes. However, I have more problem with the food quality rather than the service.

In conclusion, if you had Machida Shoten ramen before or if you are a pro-ramen diner then you will definitely see that the quality now is not up-to-par. Hopefully Machida can turn around since it used to be one of my top favorite...

It's Japanese Ramen shop. I got a Tonkotsu Ramen with green onion plate. It turns to Negi Tonkotsu Ramen. Also I got thick soup, but Green Onion also have strong tastes, so after I put it into the soup and tuned to very salty. So I asked additional hot water to dilute the soup. We can adjust the thjckness of soup anytime. This is GOOD point!! They have sesame and onion on the tabel, so you can put them in. It's also good point. I saw the other review saying that there was garlic on the table also, but was not available when I visited... it would be much better... Anyway ramens itself was really good. Almost I drunk them up Lol, but I stopped myself Lol. Anyway no complain. This is...

At 3pm, there is plenty of available seating. I believe all tables have an outlet for charging smart devices. There is wifi and the code is written on a note along the wall side. For a good experience, I recommend sitting in front of the cooking area. The place is air conditioned well enough and fairly comfortable seating. Chicken ramen regular size is plenty for me. I think the side dish of gyoza is a bit overboard. Parking out front door motorbikes. The location is really easy to get to. It's down the same road as the front side of Thao Dien Pearl mall along the same side of the street. If you reach the 3 way intersection after the mall, then you've gone too far.
