TLDR: If we could give this place 6 stars we would!! Best Mexican food we have had outside of Mexico ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After meeting a person from Mexico living here in Saigon, he said his favorite place to eat was here. So the next night we had to try it.
After looking over their amazing menu with the owner at the table giving his recommendations we ordered his recommended tacos, a custom ceviche and veggie fajitas. Just as the owner left to put in our order I saw a plate of nachos bein put at another table.
I asked to change to the chicken nachos from the recommended tacos. The manager knew our love of authentic Mexican food and was confused with my nacho choice… but I really wanted them!
The food all arrived and it all blew us away! Amazing flavor, presentation and the portions were huge! As I started to write this review the owner cam to the table with 1 portion of the taco he recommended (Beef Biarria) on the house… because I need to taste real Mexico at his restaurant. And damn they were amazing. Should I have had them to begin with… maybe but the nachos were everything I wanted and more!
So before you think this is a puff piece we did have an issue, they put salt on 1/2 the glass of my margarita when I asked for none… yea that is it! There is really nothing to complain about here!
With a chef from Mexico City, home made salsa, tortillas and imported ingredients this place is just perfect! If you are craving authentic Mexican restaurant you will not go wrong here! Just go and try the Beef Biarria, or anything! You...
Read moreAfter a few years of experiencing Vietnamese restaurant culture, I’ve updated my view of DF from two stars to four stars. While Ho Chi Minh City has a variety of Mexican restaurants, none deliver as consistently as DF. They offer solid drink options, attentive service, and food that stands out compared to other Mexican spots in the city. It’s a good choice for seasoned expats but might not meet tourists’ expectations.
Back in 2019, my experience wasn’t as positive, but the 2024 update reflects improvements I’ve noticed over time. While I don’t frequent DF often, as there are plenty of other great food options in HCM, if you’re craving Mexican, this is your best bet. Four stars!
— Review from 2019:
I'm always looking for good Mexican or Tex Mex in Saigon but this isn't the place. I always find myself disappointed with the flavor profile from the food. Whereas when I'm in Mexico City, food, techniques, etc. seem to be advancing, DF strikes me as stuck in the past.
It's a nice touch that the tortillas and nacho chips are homemade, but the fillers and toppings are just missing something. Cheesy natchos? Is that cream or queso? Spicy habanero chicken wings? Not even spicy for a newborn and deep fried to the point where meat makes the transition into inedible plastic. Baby octopus salad? Ok thanks for the three little baby octopuses and a ton of lettuce.
Now on the plus side, the drinks always have kick, the atmosphere is always festive and the staff work their asses off,...
Read moreThe best spot for Mexican food in town. They have so many dishes to choose from, and some they make adjustments to become the place’s signature dish. Best part is they have house-made sauces. If you afraid of not knowing what the sauces are, then don’t worry because they have labels on the jar that will tell you what they are. If your spicy tolerance level is not high (like me), I recommend asking the staffs about it, and they will gladly make adjustments for you. Like the first pic, we ordered pork al pastor, which is flour tortillas that comes in 4 pieces but I can’t eat spicy food so they put 2 normal ones for my friend on one side, and another side for the less spicy ones. We ordered: Pork Al Pastor Baja Style Fish Taco: I love fish so if you do too please get this one, it’s too good to ignore😚 Chicken/Pork Quesadilla Kumquat Margarita Nachos
I highly recommend getting nachos if you have a big group. They give you a very generous amount of toppings and the chips are homemade.
However, the drink is quite disappointing. I had kumquat margarita and it tastes nothing like a margarita. I can’t barely taste the kumquat nor the tequila. Maybe a bit of kumquat as aftertaste. So, I feel like I’m just drinking ice the whole time.
Overall, the food is amazing. The food is rich in taste thanks to spices, the vegetables are also a nice addition, and of course the sauce makes everything better. The place is...
