I really enjoyed the food at Quán Bụi and went here twice during my stay in Saigon. During my first visit, I had the bún mọc, a northern Vietnamese vermicelli noodle soup with pork balls, and mushrooms. This dish is often served with mắm tôm (shrimp paste) and a plate of fresh vegetables on the side. The mắm tôm was delicious! I absolutely loved it. Fair warning, mắm tôm is an acquired taste. Many westerners may find the smell to be off putting and the taste to be a bit too strong. But it is a perfect sauce to add to the soup. I also had the cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk). This too was delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness and velvitty texture. The restaurant menu features a plethora of Vietnamese home cooked dishes that can be hard to find in restaurants outside of Vietnam. The size of the dishes are best had by a group of people eating family/tapas style. If you are going alone, I recommend keeping it between 1-2 dishes max. The second time I went, I had the thịt kho trứng (braised pork with eggs in coconut juice). This is a fairly common Vietnamese home cooked dish. I just wanted to see how different it was compared to how my mom prepared it when I was growing up. It seems almost exactly the way my mom made it, which was great! The pork was extremely tender and flavorful. The egg being stewed with the pork allows it to take in a lot of the flavor of the sauce and is an absolute joy to eat. I really enjoyed this place and highly recommend anyone interested in trying traditional Vietnamese home cooking to go here. The menu also has English text for those who are unable to read Vietnamese.

I found this restaurant from Google reviews and I was so happy with this place. Casual, but not really too casual that you feel it’s a nice environment. HCM city has a lot of restaurant options that you feel like you don't want to go to the same place again, but it was an exception and I did it. I made a reservation for the first visit so after we had dinner, I wanted to make another reservation for the next day. I went downstairs as we were leaving and spoke to one of the staff if I can make a reservation. He asked me to call the restaurant number instead so I referred to google and called the number on the spot. Someone answered immediately and took my reservation, but I thought it sounded quite close so I looked at the counter within the restaurant and another guy who was just 2 meters away was the one who took my reservation. We had eye contact, but he did not talk to me in person and just talked to me on the phone. I hung up and asked him if he just took my reservation and he said Yes. He indicated the note that he wrote down the reservation details just now. I found it really strange, hence 4 stars. Maybe there is a reason, but anyway, my reservation was successful for the next day. The ambiance was great and the food was very good. The dish, Banh Xeo had Cuttlefish inside and not pork so that was unexpected, but maybe I did not read the menu properly.

Overall, the food was acceptable, though overly salty. However, the restaurant's cleanliness was questionable—a large cockroach ran across our table and seats during the meal, which was extremely unsettling. The most frustrating aspect of the experience, however, was the service: 1. Missed Orders and Mistakes: The first waiter forgot one of our main dishes and got another dish wrong. This resulted in long gaps between courses, making the meal feel disjointed and unpleasant. 2. Lack of Attentiveness: Despite having several staff members on the first floor, including bartenders, none seemed attentive to the customers. It often took multiple attempts and a long wait to get their attention. When my wife and I stood up, visibly alarmed by the cockroach incident, it was astonishing that none of the staff noticed until we had to raise our voices to call for assistance. On one occasion, we managed to make eye contact with a bartender and signaled for help, she nodded back, but then returned to her work without notifying anyone, leaving us to wait further. 3. Carelessness: After the cockroach situation was addressed, we were moved to another table. Later, we discovered that the staff had accidentally thrown away our leftover dishes, adding to our frustration. In summary, this was a very disappointing dining experience. The combination of mediocre food, poor cleanliness, and inattentive service made it one we wouldn’t recommend.

I am living in Saigon close to 15 years and since Quan Bui opened, it has never disappointed, moreover exceed everyone's expectations. Locals, expats and tourists coming to this spot and dive into traditional cuisine and get a glance of Vietnamese interior design. Mr. Danh, the owner, pays attention to detail and with his business, he preserves not only the Vietnamese Food Culture, but the Vietnamese art and design - Vietnamese Heritage. Price wise it's on the higher scale, but in return you get to seat and dine at a beautifully designed restaurant with arts and feel how it must have been living like back then. Hand-made chinaware, environmentally-friendly items such as grass straws etc. Last week, I went there for a late lunch and tea break. I love his signature dessert, which has been always been on the menu and yet it is very simple dish - Passionfruit Mousse served in a Passionfruit. The porcellan is from Tuhu Ceramics which perfectly matches into his concept. I wish Quan Bui and Mr. Danh all the best for 2021 - The Year of the Ox. And hope he keeps doing what he does with such great passion. A fan of Vietnamese Cuisine and Culture. xoxo PS: the photos aren't great, I know. :)

As an Asian cuisine enthusiast, I have a particular fondness for traditional Vietnamese dishes, often choosing Vietnamese rice meals as my daily fare. In a city filled with restaurants offering Vietnamese food primarily for tourists, many only capture the essence of the cuisine without delivering the authentic flavors. However, Bụi Original stands out as a beacon of genuine Vietnamese taste at reasonable prices. What impressed me most is how Bụi Original embraces the diversity of Vietnam's culinary regions, which can be a challenge for any Vietnamese restaurant. They successfully transported me back to my childhood with their kho quẹt, a dish that truly embodies the nostalgic flavors of home. Moreover, the vegetarian options at Bụi Original are not just an afterthought; they are crafted to enhance the dining experience and showcase the deliciousness of plant-based cuisine. Dining at Bụi Original felt like enjoying a meal made with love, reminiscent of the dishes my Vietnamese mother would prepare for our family. It’s a heartfelt experience that I highly recommend to anyone seeking authentic Vietnamese flavors.

We were having a massage at the Temple Leaf nearby and decided to have dinner here based on the good reviews. The place was relatively easy to find using Google maps, and the decor is pretty nice. When we arrived at 6, there were only 3-4 tables full, but the place started filling up as the evening wore on, especially for larger groups who were seated upstairs and at the rooftop. Foodwise, there were some hits and misses. We liked the lime and soda, and lime juice with lemongrass beverages. We ordered pork ribs raised with honey, and the pieces were mostly bone and quite hard. The aubergine with beef salad, which came with a side of crackers, were pretty good, as was the garlic fried rice. The waiter recommended chicken roasted with lemon leaf, which took 35 minutes to arrive. It was fresh, and about half a chicken, but the cook has chopped the pieces badly, leaving to many splintered bones, one of which pierced the top of my mouth as I was chewing. Portions were smallish, and the food could be better. They do accept Mastercard or Visa.
