Oh, Tonkotsu Ramen Ichibanken! Just thinking about it brings a little warmth to my stomach and a smile to my face. I've been on a bit of a ramen quest since moving to Ho Chi Minh City, and this spot on Lê Thánh Tôn has definitely carved out a special place in my heart.

The first time I walked in, I was immediately hit by that familiar, comforting aroma – a deep, savory promise of good things to come. The place itself is cozy, unpretentious, and always seems to have a friendly buzz. You can tell it’s a spot where people come to enjoy a genuine bowl of ramen, not just a quick bite.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show: their Tonkotsu ramen. The broth is, quite simply, a hug in a bowl. It’s rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful, simmered to perfection. You can taste the hours of dedication that go into it. Each spoonful is a comforting wave of umami that just makes you feel… happy.

The noodles are cooked just right – that perfect springy chewiness that I crave. And the chashu? Oh, the chashu! It melts in your mouth like butter, a beautiful balance of tender meat and savory fat. Every ingredient feels thoughtfully chosen and prepared with care.

I always leave feeling utterly satisfied, not just full, but truly content. It's more than just a meal; it's a moment of pure comfort and indulgence. There's a genuine sense of warmth from the staff too, making the whole experience feel very welcoming.

So, why not a perfect 5/5? Well, sometimes, depending on how busy they are, the service can be a tad bit slower, and while the ramen is fantastic, I've had one or two bowls elsewhere that just had that extra tiny zing that pushed them over the edge. But honestly, these are minor quibbles.

Tonkotsu Ramen Ichibanken on Lê Thánh Tôn is my go-to when I need a culinary pick-me-up, a taste of authentic ramen comfort, or just a really, really good meal. If you're in HCMC and craving a bowl of soul-warming deliciousness, please, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. You won't regret it. It's a place that genuinely...

[*I don't know why some pictures just don't load or are not accepted - I'm trying to reload this review]

Popular place. I was behind 4 people who were waiting. They ended up being one group, but it still took 10 mins after I arrived for them to get a table.

I tried the Yakimeshi set for 185K/$7.30. That is a bowl of shiro tonkotsu ramen and a side of J-style fried rice.

The ramen is a semi-hearty, kind of creamy broth (not spicy at all). I thought it was pretty good. It might not be as good as some of the others in Japan Town/the surrounding area, but it was a quality ramen for a non-J-ramen expert (myself).

The fried rice has bits of pork in it. I thought the fried rice was quite good. It wasn't oily, wasn't dry, wasn't salty; it was a good combination of everything.

I got a can of sparkling water (25K/$1). I think it's 8K in a convenience store, but for a restaurant, it's ok; 20K would have been great.

There's 8% VAT, so my total was...

If you want authentic DELICIOUS ramen in the middle of Sài Gòn, definitely stop by this place like today. This restaurant features an automated ordering system vs. ordering with a staff member. Once you’re seated, you can place your order using the QR code available at the table and customize the ramen to your taste. The staff will bring your order to the table once it’s ready. We got both the Shiro and Kuro Tonkotsu Ramen and they were both tasty. The broth packs a punch with flavor and umami goodness, leaving you wanting more at the end of the meal. I left the restaurant with a satisfied belly and knowing I would definitely be coming back here for more ramen. P.S. Check out is also automated using the ordering site on your phone, so just click the button once you’re ready. The staff will leave you to enjoy your meal otherwise, so it’s great for those who like their privacy.
