I really wanted to like this place as I love Indian food and appreciate someone offering it inexpensively in an otherwise very expensive area of HCMC. The pluses are that the menu is extensive, covering all dishes you might hope to find, prices are very reasonable with no ‘++’, and the service is friendly. However, on the minus side, you are seated outside so both you and staff are dripping sweat everywhere (hopefully not into the curry), the beer wasn’t cold (which is highly unusual in PMH), and the curry just wasn’t spicy. I ordered a vindaloo as I like spicy Indian food and know that this is one of the spiciest. The waiter asked me how spicy I wanted so I told him ‘regular’ as I wanted the normal level of spice reserved for vindaloo. However, they chose to make the mildest vindaloo I have ever eaten, not that it tasted horrible, but my main reason for choosing a spicy dish in an Indian restaurant in Vietnam was to experience a spicy curry. I don’t know what I could have done differently to get the dish I wanted. Perhaps I should have said “extra hot and spicy” when asked how hot I wanted the vindaloo but then I could have been served a dish even hotter than ‘regular’ vindaloo-hot which would have either been inedible or have given me raging diarrhoea. So, in conclusion, while I do appreciate the effort these guys are making in mixing things up in such a ‘high class’ suburb, I was left disappointed by the lack of Indian spice in my Indian food and so would not make a return trip or recommend...
Read moreThe only saving grace of this restaurant is the opportunity to dine outside in the sweltering midsummer heat of Ho Chi Minh City. Being completely alfresco, it’s not the place for those who prefer air-conditioned spaces.
Regarding the food, I think I’ve found the worst Indian restaurant in all of Vietnam—worse even than some diners in Da Nang, which is quite an achievement. This place uses the same tricks: everything is pre-prepared, and they rely heavily on a single sauce. Ordering a garlic naan gets you a regular naan with garlic sprinkled on top, and a chili naan is just naan bread with cayenne pepper. It's infuriating.
I came here to enjoy Indian food but left shaking my head. The chole bhature, my staple favorite, was barely edible. The bhatura bread crumbled into nothing at the slightest touch, and the mutton was equally disappointing.
Overall, this restaurant is an embarrassment. I'm embarrassed to have dined here and that they can serve such food and charge money with a straight face.
Most of their business appears to come from delivery, so this review might not reach many potential customers. Despite scoring two stars (one star would imply malicious intent to ruin my meal), this restaurant is far from redeemable. I will certainly avoid this place for as long as I’m on this planet and suggest you...
Read moreAfter some delivery issues a few months ago, I decided to give this restaurant a second chance because, for a long time, it used to be one of my favorite Indian restaurants in District 7.
Unfortunately, this time was even more disappointing. I ordered lunch — Cheese Garlic Naan, but what I received had no garlic at all, just a plain cheese naan. As for the buttermilk, it tasted like spoiled milk with half a glass of ice thrown in (no herb, nothing)
Sadly, this will probably be my last experience with this restaurant. It’s disappointing to see how much the quality has declined — from one of the better places in the area to just...
