Zumwhere Đông Du — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

Great venue- very instagrammable, great location and nice food presentation. However that all that was good about our experience here. We wanted to try somewhere new and saw the reviews and rating on google so we made a booking at 6pm on a Friday night. The restraurant was fairly empty no one on the lower floor and only 2 tables on the 2nd floor occupied. We ordered wine and a highball, oysters, seaweed salad, cali rolls, spicy tuna rolls, salmon taco, seafood udon. Within 2mins of the waiter taking our order our salmon tacos arrived at the table. Stale taco and too much sauce. Then straight away our hot udon dish. We didnt even have drinks yet so had to ask for these to be delivered, given there was hardly anyone in the reatraurant was quite surprising the time it took for drinks to arrive. They didnt look short staffed. There was a long wait for oysters next and then an even longer wait on rolls and seaweed salad. So much rich sauce on every dish, to the point where you couldnt tell what the ingredients were that lay underneath. everything was too rich and too sweet. The timing of food and drink delivery to the table was very unusual. It was Friday and we wanted to relax and enjoy a drink or two with some nice food, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. Truly a let down as I was really looking forward to dining here given all the highly rated Google reviews. In the end, it's really just mediocre food for such high prices that isn't justifiable at all. The only plus was the vibes and service being decent~ I do not have an expensive palette nor high standards but I know when food is disappointing.

The food here was a hit or miss depending on the dishes. Out of everything I tried, the (grilled) cheese mussels were the only tasty dish, yet it wasn't out of this world. Fresh oysters had sand in them and the sauce pairing is questionable, the steak was hard and chewy, fried baby squid still had the pen (flat skeletal bone) which would normally be removed during the cleaning process, and the salmon sashimi tasted normal but extremely overpriced in my opinion (5pc for 199,000++).

Lastly, at the end of the meal, staff would coerce diners to give Google reviews -- likely why this has so many reviews.

There are many more fine dining options that'll match the price points here and is far better by miles...

on our last night in ho chi minh we were looking for a nice place to get dinner and zumwhere had promising reviews, but our experience was entirely the opposite. right away we learned that the restaurant didn’t have running water, it took 15 minutes for a server to approach us after waving them down. we ordered sashimi, udon and a skewer and a couple of highballs. udon came to the table first, it was not hot. drinks were fine for the price. it took another 35 minutes for any of the cold dishes to arrive, and the worst part for me was that the slices of fish were atrociously thick. we had attempted to get the bill a couple of times before we had to go inside and grab somebody to help us. had a server been taking care of this we probably could have excused this, but the service was basically nonexistent. it seems the restaurant only caters to instagram influencers. would not...
