There are YouTube trailers which only emphasize the acrobatic part of the show. It does not highlight enough that there are comedic parts telling a story. Very misleading.
The costuming is near non-existent. About 90% of the show has the performers in all-black athletic wear, or topless for the guys. The outfits lack creativity and feel half-hearted.
The stories told had little to do with each other. Part of the show was what you’d expect - Vietnamese singing and acrobatics using bamboo props. Some other parts of the show were completely random, like beatboxing or girls acting out a workout class or guys playing ping pong with their mouths. I understand that the show was meant to highlight different aspects of Vietnamese culture, but in trying to capture a broad spectrum of life, it feels shallow and every story feels incomplete. The choreography was probably the most disappointing part of the show. Sometimes I had no idea what story was being conveyed.
Unfortunately, even the acrobatics felt very safe and unimpressive. I never felt like I was on the edge of my seat, and during some parts of the show I felt like I was watching what seemed to be a bunch of people tossing bamboo sticks and baskets around. What am I supposed to be impressed with?
The music was pretty decent during the entirety of the show, but the sound was just too loud.
The show is incredibly expensive for what little it offers. If you have to see the show, just get the cheapest seats. Don’t splurge on the “wow” seats - not worth it at all. After the show was done, I could see that everyone in the wow seats were most definitely not “wowed”. Unimpressed would be a more appropriate term.
I do not recommend this...
Read moreVery bad memory from our stay in Ho Chi Minh-Ville.
On 20th of December 2024, during a trip to Vietnam, I booked 3 tickets for the show at 6 pm, but due to a flight cancellation from Vietnam Airlines the same day at noon (I was in Con Dao island), I wasn't able to arrive on time for the show. As soon as I had the information of the cancellation, I emailed the Company ticket service to inform them and ask for a change of hour or date, but was only offered to buy a new ticket with a 20 per cent discount. I thought I will try my luck going directly to the entrance before the next spectacle, at 8 pm the same day (I arrived in town at 6 pm), the persons in charge were not helpful at all, they sticked to the only 20 per cent discount, even if the 6 pm spectacle was not full, nor the 8 pm show. If I add that this show was a gift for my wife birthday and that my 5 years old daughter ended up crying at the entrance because she couldn't understand why we were not going to see the show, the memory is bitter after spending more than 2 millions VND for these 3 tickets, which is not a small amount of money in Vietnam. To be honest, the rules are clearly written on the e-ticket when you buy it, but I was not expecting such a behavior from the persons in charge at the entrance, nobody accepted to assume any responsibility giving its name and they gave us a fake email address to complain.
If you buy a ticket for this spectacle, don't be late because they won't...
Read moreWe've watched AO show. Here is my thoughts:
The storytelling aspect of the Ao Show was notably weak. The narrative lacked cohesion and failed to capture the essence of Vietnam's rich cultural tapestry, making it difficult to follow and engage with.
Unfortunately, the music was not only distracting but also grating, with a pitch that was often uncomfortable to the ear. Instead of complementing the scenes, it was more of a discordant backdrop.
There were several scenes that seemed utterly superfluous. Watching these unfold, I found myself engulfed by a sense of ennui, questioning the purpose and contribution of these acts to the overall storyline.
The quality of the performance was reminiscent of a high school production; it lacked the professional polish and finesse one would expect from a renowned venue like the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House.
Regrettably, attending the Ao Show felt like both a waste of time and money. The experience did not live up to the expectations set by such a prestigious locale, leaving much to be desired in terms of entertainment and...
