Warning: When you get to the restaurant and there is nobody there, it really feels like you are entering a normal but open residence with a family. We found a lady preparing some food, a father drinking tea, a young guy doing some homework and a little kid playing around. Just an ordinary family setting and we were hesitant to go in at first. People after us felt the same even while we were already sitting in the ‘house’. The interior is super simple but it shouldn’t distract you. The emphasis definitely lies on the food, and what an experience it was.
In a restaurant you have five types of portions: Way too little, but it’s a five star restaurant so hey, why not also pay a premium for leaving the restaurant hungry Too little, and price is cheap, so you complain on Google Review that portion was too small knowing you are also a cheap ass Just the right amount, not much of a delighter but okay A little extra, so definitely a great deal when priced correctly An outrageous amount of food, almost embarrassing to leave at the table once done as there is still enough left for at least one person to eat. And against a very low price, definitely a delighter!
Now.. number 5 is the one that this restaurant offers. And then the food is also really good! We were quite hungry, so we ordered a big pho (small is definitely big enough), a small fried rice with pieces of omelet, a small vegetables with beef and a fruit salad. Only the small vegetables with beef was already sufficient for the two of us, so you can imagine what we had left on the table after we were done. We were quite embarrassed and frankly we hope they are going to adjust the portions. These are just too big and the prices are already super low. Halving the portions would already do a lot and the supernice family would earn a better income which they so much deserve for this hidden gem (although advertising with ‘no. 1 on TripAdvisor’ does sound a little different..).
Definitely a to-go-to place which we would recommend, if not only for the weird experience of not finding the exterior of the place fit for the reputation, then insane amounts of food and then having to pay a really low...
Read moreI will say the same as below reviews = come and visit this place. Highly recommend. As it was New Years (Lunar New Year) 21st January l was the only one here. Just staying 3 doors up it was just to convenient. The owners were so lovely to welcome me and tell me their story. Such great conversations over a nice Bia Hanoi after a big days ride. They were so generous with free fruit, preshrunk roasted peanuts & chips. I ordered beef wrapped in vine leaves which were so fresh and tasty and an ideal food to go with a beer. I felt like wine before l ordered more dishes so the owner took me for a walk up the road where l brought 2 x bottles of red wine. We returned to share a bottle. I was at this restaurant for 3hrs and had a great time, with excellent food, company and even got the chance to get some work done. I will be back for the famous Egg Coffee and breakfast before l ride to Hanoi. Thanks again for such great...
Read moreI ate here 3 times so far and I think it's a great place. I came at first because they offer a free 450ml Hanoi beer and a banana just for eating there. Every time I ordered something for 50k, and never was I able to finish it. The portions are huge! Nice family, and they always charged the correct price at the end. A couple times I ordered another beer and the cost is 15k per beer. The bathroom is way back in the house, so it's kind of funny to walk through all the doors to get way back to the bathroom. Below I attached a picture of a small order of pork spring rolls. Giant portions for the great prices...
