We didn't actually stay at the hotel so I cannot say anything about it. This review is about the trekking they organise.||||We agreed to a trekking organised through the New Queen Hotel's relatively new Backpackers Travel Agency. We weren't actually looking for a 3-day trek but after speaking to the manager, we were convinced that this was exactly what we wanted. He promised us to visit some factories (which we were less interested in) but more importantly some hard trekking on day 2. We especially said that we were good hikers and wanted a really hard trek. He guaranteed it. But when our guide arrived, we had our first doubts - he wasn't exactly fit..||||The ride to the mountains around Mai Chau was beautiful and we did visit a honey factory. But our guide was not very interested in explaining a lot and we basically spent a day on a motorbike even though we were told the ride would only take 4 hours. ||||In the evening we were promised again that the next day would be hard trekking. The guide kept pointing out how he knew exactly what we wanted and how much better than anyone else he was...||||Well, the trek the following day was a Sunday stroll through villages. He didn't take us on any trails or on any difficult terrain. He even left us to wander along the main street for 2 hours on our own. During lunch he got drunk and afterwards could barely walk a straight line.||||When we complained and said that this wasn't the trek we were promised he got angry and aggressive. In the end, he ordered a boy from the village we slept in to take us up a mountain so we got some of our hard trek but he wouldn't/couldn't do it himself.||||He also promised to show us how to make banana pancake the next morning but slept in instead and had someone else make the pancake.||||In the end I forgot my phone at the home stay. We were 1,5 hours away when I noticed it. Instead of offering to get it for us, he demanded more money and had no problem taking literally our last money before we left Vietnam for Laos. He knew we had nothing left after this and he also knew there was no ATM after the boarder (while telling us there would be one). ||||Don't waste your money on a tour you can do yourself and on a...
Read moreThe man who appears to be the owner is disgusting in the way he speaks and addresses paying customers. He uses tactics to intimidate and frighten who he is speaking to, interrupting anybody who talks and snarling at us to "LISTEN", pointing his finger and raising his voice at my friends and I. During the conversation I was extremely vulnerable and worried for my friends and I, as he seems aggressive and unpredictable. After an extremely heated conversation, lasting over 45 minutes, I was finally able to book a sleeper bus ticket to Phong Nha on the bus company Queen. My ticket was overpriced, and we know the owner spun stories into getting me to pay more money. He supposedly called the driver of the bus, speaking in Vietnamese, and then started speaking in pretty perfect English. We know how unlikely it would be for a Vietnamese bus driver to be able to comprehend and understand what he was saying, so we knew that what he was saying was all for show. When I asked if I could speak to the driver, seeing as he should have been able to understand me too, the owner made up a pathetic excuse and hung up the phone. When it came time to get on the bus, it was an hour and a half late. Everyone was up in arms about the lack of organisation. Frankly, the travel agents didn't even care, all they want is your money. The owner ordered everybody around as though they were cattle. Please do yourself a favour and avoid this...
Read moreWe arrived ninh binh for 1 night, a guy at the bus station offerd a free ride to the hotel& a free ride back to the station the next day. He took us to the hotel and we got a great room with AC and comfortable beds. The shower and the room were both pretty clean but there was a slight dusty smell (not a big deal). Also the guy told us the hotel is close to the center of the city, which was not true (but we already knew that, we just didn't mind) The next morning we had to check out before 12pm even though our bus was at 8pm, so we lefted our bags at the reception and rented a motorbike from the hotel and traveld the area, also got a free map from the reception. |When we came back to the hotel (around 6 pm), the guy we knew wasnt there but a women who i think is the manager was, we asked to take a shower and stay in a room for 2 hours (of course we were willing to pay) and she asked for 80,000 dong (3 people) we tried to get it for 60,000 but she refused. We ended up paying 80,000 since we really needed that shower. We had to remind the receptionist we deserve a free ride to the bus station but he took us with no problem. All and all a nice hotel, good for 1-2 nights but is far from the city so keep...
