Alaska Mining & Diving Supply Inc. — Attraction in Alaska

Quick summary: It's a fantastic place for any mining and diving needs with great customer service, knowledge and experience. I'm happy we decided to visit to see if they had any gold panning equipment(and they do). It will be the first place I go to for any mining supplies, and so far enjoyed going every time.

We went out hoping to find a place that sells decent gold pans for a panning trip, and after a few stores we ended up at Alaska Mining and Diving. To be honest, anytime I saw the store I always assumed it was a place for commercial gear, but we decided that it might have some consumer grade items. Though after we went inside, we saw a large diverse rack of pans and right there knew we were in the perfect place.

When we got there, none of us knew what we were really doing, and we kind of just stood there star struck staring at the items and tools. That's when Bryan appeared; probably noticed how lost we all were. As you probably seen from the other reviews he's a standup guy, and from personal experience, he really is. Very knowledgeable, highly experienced and exceedingly personable. To say the least, he showed us the way to the prospectors life. Showed us what we needed to start our journey and hyped us up to new levels from tales of his own prospecting experience.

After the trip a few days later, I came back again to buy a new classifier as my previous one decided to escape down the river when my back was turned. I was given the same great customer service. Personally, it's just fun at this point to see what they have in store and to talk to Bryan about gold things. It even gotten to the point were we wanted to invest in a metal detector. I've been into Alaska mining and diving a few times this summer because I recently purchased used Honda outboards. I like to service my own equipment and Alaska Mining and Diving seems to be the main Honda dealer in Anchorage. My experience has been less than satisfactory this year. With the covid-19 I've been trying to do as much over the phone as possible and whenever I call their phone line goes directly to voicemail saying they will call you back. I've left three different messages at three different times with no call back this summer. So I expected that when I went down there for it to be busy or understaffed. When I got there they had a full complement of people behind the parts counter and with little to no customers. I've had to go down there four different times and this is always been the case. They do not appear to keep in stock regular maintenance items for common outboard Honda outboard engines. For being anchorage's premier Honda Outboard dealer it makes wish I did not own Honda or that someone else would start another dealership....

Thanks for the response. The parts guy behind the counter today I think felt my frustrations and threw in the shipping cost to rush my part. All anybody can hope for is somebody to stand behind their product and service. I would have thought a 50 horsepower Honda would be one of the more common engines and a water pump impeller is supposed to be regular maintenance on any outboard. I would have expected that to be a part that any dealer would always...

I love the staff there and the service work is good, however, over the past year and a half some changes have occurred. To get a boat serviced you have a long list to wait from, and they always want you to remove your motor from your boat. This does not work for most people. If your motor is attached to a boat then there is a long wait ~4 weeks to even get it seen. They have done away with their service lot that was adjacent to them so they cannot house any boats there anymore so this poses the problem of service not being able to get to you or even call you back for an appointment. This was never a problem in the past from my experience. I have heard and even gone to distant places to get the service I need while still being on the "waiting list." First time ever was in late mid June, after a week, we had to go to Soldotna to get our service done, which was only some fuel injectors that took them less than a week to perform. Now on the list again they said 4 weeks at least in early August. Just a bit frustrating, and i believe its from selling the lots next door. Just slower than it...
