If you visit Albania you must know that big cities like Tirana and Durresi try to keep up with the big cities life trend, otherwise cities like Gjirokastra, Korça, Berati have kept their medieval vibe untouched. Grand bazaar or Gjirokastra is a gem to visit, Gjirokastra whole as a Unesco heritage is a great place to spend a weekend ose a couple of days. There are a lot of things to do like: -vizit the Bazaar and the shops and restaurants there, where you can try traditional food in a very good price. -Visit the castle, it is one of the biggest in Albania. -Visit the museums and also the typical Gjirokastra houses like Zekate house, Skenduli House or Etnografic Museum. -Visit the cold war tunel. They are all located nearby the Bazaar of Gjirokastra. Don't forget to buy some great souvenirs there!

If you are an avid collector of local souvenirs, this is the ideal location for your shopping needs. It is discreetly situated atop the mountain, exuding a traditional atmosphere and well-preserved Ottoman architecture. While the bazaar may not be exceptionally large, it offers a wider selection compared to other towns, providing more options for choosing authentic Albanian products. Prices are generally consistent and fixed, but venturing further inside may reveal more affordable options. The vendors are accommodating and willing to offer discounts for multiple purchases. I personally acquired a high-quality, handcrafted tablecloth that I am extremely pleased with.

Real Xmas fairy tale)))A must )))Every year is getting better ))) The Old Bazaar in Gjirokastër, also known as Qafa e Pazarit, dates back to the 17th century but was largely rebuilt after a fire in the 19th century. Its architecture features two- and three-story Ottoman-style buildings, with artisans historically working on the ground floor and living quarters above. The bazaar is renowned for its cobblestone streets and unique radial layout, connecting various streets of the old town. Today, it remains vibrant with shops selling handcrafted goods, local delicacies, and souvenirs, preserving traditional crafts for future generations.

Such an awesome place it a MUST GO when you travel to Albania. From the beach side (Himare) drive to there is around 2 hours though the mountain road. One option is drive along the sea, another option is driving over the mountains which is a challenging drive but beautiful. The Bazaar is colourful with lots of different handmade souvenirs, Crafts etc. The Ottoman old town preserve very well, clean and you can feel you are walking in the history. Lots of local restaurants and modern cafes which serve good food. *IG lover's photo paradise here. There is parking on top of the old town, then walking around take around 2, 3 hours etc.

It's a beautiful place, but the ride to the top was scary. There was a pebbled stoned road which I had to drive on while it was raining and I had to keep going to the top for at least 2.5 minutes in speed 1. There's nowhere to turn or go back. The road was very narrow and other cars were coming down, passing me while I was driving. I was very anxious. When we finally got there, we parked the car and paid 500 lek for 2.5 hours which wasn't too bad. The place was nice and you can admire it in about an hour. I thought it would be bigger. There weren't a lot of vendors with stuff. We had lunch there and headed back to the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed this market and traveled by car from Saranda to Gjirokastër bazaar based on recommendations from a few YouTube videos. We tried food from a place called Odaja. The market is strikingly beautiful and captivating. As it's part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, we felt like we had traveled back in time, especially at the end of the market. The view was very scenic, with an open area surrounded by mountains as a backdrop. Don't miss trying the ice cream from this market. The gelato is amazing and out of this world.
