St. Maron's Cathedral, Buenos Aires — Attraction in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

Muy interesante para conocer. Tiene status de Catedral ya que es la sede de la Iglesia Maronita del Líbano para Argentina. Esta es una de las iglesias originales del cristianismo, una de las numerosas ramas existentes en Oriente desde tiempos de los primeros cristianos. Proviene del Patriarcado de Antioquía y como todas las Comunidades religiosas de Oriente sobrevivió a períodos de persecuciones, matanzas y destrucciones de monasterios e iglesias junto a tiempos de tolerancia y convivencia pacífica con otras religiones. Líbano en particular se constituyó en hogar y refugio de múltiples comunidades posiblemente gracias a la protección de sus montañas. La maronita en particular se reencontró con los cristianos de occidente durante las cruzadas y fue relacionándose con la Iglesia Católica Romana hasta unirse en plena comunión con esta, conservando sus estructuras y ritos. Es mayoritaria en Líbano y existe en todo el mundo en que hubo inmigración libanesa. El edificio fue construido con piedras traídas del Líbano en contenedores, con constructores especializados en las técnicas específicas venidos de este país e inaugurado en 2001. En el predio había antes una capilla al lado del Colegio San Marón que vienen de 1902-1905. La misa tiene partes en siríaco occidental, una rama del arameo, el idioma hablado en tiempos de Jesús y es interesante ver los vitraux y símbolos del cristianismo en Oriente. Se estima que cerca de un 8% de los argentinos tiene ascendencia del levante (actuales Líbano, Siria o Palestina). Este Colegio e Iglesia permitieron a los primeros inmigrantes y sus descendientes mantener parte de su cultura y vida religiosa hasta hoy en día.

Highly recommended. It has the status of Cathedral as it is the Seat of the Maronite Lebanese Church for Argentina. The Maronite is one of the original christian churches, one of the many branches existing today in the Middle East since the beginning of Christianity. It has its roots in the Patriarchy of Antioch and as all religious communities in that region it survived periods of persecution, killings and destruction of monasteries and churches as well as periods of tolerance and peaceful life with other communities. Historically Lebanon became a haven for multiple vulnerable minorities probably thanks to the protection offered by its mountainous terrain. The Maronite Church in particular came into contact with the western christians during the crusades and in time developed stronger ties with the Roman Catholic Church finally entering in communion with it while keeping its structure and rites. It is the most numerous Christian community in Lebanon and it has presence in most countries where Lebanese migrated. The Cathedral was built with stones brought by ocean from Lebanon with several specialized Lebanese builders involved in the works on site and it was inaugurated in 2001. The site previously housed a chapel and besides it is the Saint Maron College, both from 1902-1905. Attending a Mass there is an opportunity to hear prayers in Western Syriac a branch of the Aramean language spoken at the times of Jesus Christ. It is interesting to see the vitraux and symbols of Christianity in the Levant. Verdadera obra de arquitectura, fue construida durante los años 1998 y 2000. Bajo la supervicion de Superior del Colegio San Maron Padre Andres,tiene cuatro nabes construida con piedras traidas de cuatro regiones distintas del Libano. En 2001 Cuando se realizo la ignauracion conto ademas de la presencia de las Autoridades Eclesiatica locales, el Jefe de Gobierno de la Ciudad de ese año, el Señor Embajador del Libano Mesie a handan. Llego por primera vez a la Argentina el Patriarca de Medio Oriente y Antioquia. Todo un acontecimiento para la comunidad Maronita. Gracias a Dios tuve el honor de estar presente, ademas de ver año a año como fue construida esta maravillosa Catedral. Mi hijo es egresado del Colegio. Digo asi porque entro en sala de 4 años. Curso toda la primaria y el secundario. El estaba en 5to grado y le hicieron la guardia de honor y bienbeniada al Patriarca. Las misas son muy agradabes y muy sentidas. Años antes la catedral tenia siempre las puerta abiertas, pero debido a diversos robos hoy solo se puede visitar en los horarios de misa. Sabados por la tarde 19:00hs y los domingos a las 11:00hs.
