The Alice Springs Reptile Centre is an absolutely fantastic place to visit! I've been there many times over the years, and it's always a top experience—every single time.
The variety of reptiles on display is impressive, especially the native and highly venomous snakes. It's very educational to see these incredible creatures up close in a safe environment. The centre focuses heavily on local wildlife, which makes it even more special and relevant to the region.
The educational talks are a highlight—not only informative but also engaging for all ages. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. They’re always happy to answer questions and share fascinating facts about the animals.
It’s also a great place for families. I’ve visited with young children, and it’s very child-friendly. Kids can move around freely, explore at their own pace, and there’s so much to see and learn. They can even touch or hold some of the reptiles, which is an unforgettable experience for them.
Every visit feels like a new adventure—you always discover something new. Whether you're a tourist or a local, I highly recommend visiting. It’s educational, exciting, and fun for all ages....
Read moreFor a small zoo this place has a lot of interesting reptile species. Beautiful creatures I have never seen before.
However, as others have pointed out and after seeing zoos all over Australia, the enclosures for the animals seem very small. Most snakes don't even have 1 sqm of space. It feels more like shopping for animals than a place where they actually live. The saltwater crocodile must go nuts in that tiny water puddle. Especially since it was caught in the wild as a ten year old, being put in that concrete puddle after living free must be a nightmare, completely alone. Furthermore I found the presentation of the information about the animals superficial. While the displays were nice, many signs were small and at an awkward position. Also the overall presentation and decoration of this place is in my opinion sterile and does not feel like a zoo, more like some backyard...
Read moreI visited the Reptile Centre on a visit from rural Victoria I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The display cabinets of snakes, geckos, skinks, etc, were very well presented. But then the active isplay presented by Rex was great great great. You had a chance to touch and handle the skins gecko and snake and even have a snake around your neck. Rex gave everybody in the room the opportunity to handle a reptile. His running commentary about dangers of snakes etc. was highly informative also.
Then we went outside and saw the display with Terry the saltwater croc which was just fantastic . Rex gave such a detail description of croc behaviour, why you don’t go near the water, etc, was close up and thoroughly informative and enjoyable . A great couple of hours spent at the Alice Springs reptile Centre. I thoroughly recommend on any visit to...
