We stayed here on two occasions either side of a three-day camping trip to the Red centre, and as this was a major trip for us from the UK we splashed the cash and booked a deluxe king room. We requested, and on both occasions, were allocated an upstairs room facing the Todd River.|Yes, the rooms are very dated in decor and lacking certain features you would expect nowadays, but the key things you need, a comfortable king sized bed, air conditioning that works well, a decent shower, efficient Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities and a safe that is easy to use, all worked well. The deluxe room is spacious with enough storage facilities to lose the contents of two large suit cases and room for an armchair and table with two additional swivel chairs by the sliding windows, and then the outside balcony has a further two chairs and table.|The bathroom was drab but functional and did have the benefit of a separate bath and walk in shower cubicle.|What it was missing was decent power points and decent lighting. The first room we were allocated had no lights and no power points by the bed and there were only two easily accessible points by the desk, which really doesn’t cut it for the modern traveller with all our electronic gadgets. The second room was the same power wise but at least had spotlights by the bed so that you could read.|The location of the hotel is very good, just being a short five-minute walk across the Todd River bridge to the town centre and a good location for most of the town’s major points of interest. If you have time its worth visiting the Botanical Gardens just along the road from the hotel and climbing to the top of Meyers Hill for a good view of the Hotel complex and surrounds.|We also utilised the attached Barra on Todd Restaurant on a couple of occasions and although slightly more expensive than the restaurant options in town, it was not excessively so, and the food quality and service levels were excellent.|We also took the opportunity to utilise the in-house laundry facilities which worked well and were reasonable at $5 for a washing machine and $3 for the dryer.|One key reason we booked here was that they had offered luggage storage facilities at time of making the two bookings and the staff looked after our large suitcases in a secure room by reception without issue or problems whilst we took two small holdall bags away travelling. This was a level of service that we didn’t fully appreciate until we got to Darwin.|All in all, we enjoyed our two brief stays here and would certainly recommend the...

Read moreMercure, Alice Springs||This is best described more as an elevated motel rather than defined as a hotel. The location is in the centre of Alice Springs. Reception staff and room staff were very welcoming and obliging. Reception also has a little section with gifts & souvenirs…i’d suggest buy them here rather than in town or the airport. Our room overlooked a garden area and had a quiet setting. The rooms are spacious & nicely presented with the decor giving a little nod to the heritage of Alice Springs. A safe was available in room closet with Iron & ironing board. The shower room appears newly renovated and the shower pressure was great! Be careful exiting the shower as can be a little slippy under foot. TV with remote. The in-room coffee/tea is basic so if you love coffee you’ll be disappointed as no machine or filter coffee or coffee bag. The Breakfast offerings also felt very ‘budget’ overall under the ‘Mercure’ labelling. Barra on Todd the restaurant was, however, very good with a varied menu and obliging staff. We had all our meals on site. ||There’s a laundry on site with 4 wash machines, 4 driers but half were out of order. Coin only operating. The front desk can help with coins. As i’m petite i felt disadvantaged in here as the machines were top loaders and the only drier available was at a height so difficult to access. 🙃 A portable step would benefit in this laundry. ||There is a pool with a pool bar but this was never manned during our stay. The pool has towels & beds available (the beds are metal framed and get very hot so use with caution!) The downside to using the pool is that there was indigenous aboriginal children jumping in the pool fully clothed with little regard for paying guests. ||Alice Springs the town centre was a little undesirable and it felt a little intimidating walking around. There are obvious serious social issues evident; it was advised not to go out beyond sunset. ||Overall a restful stay was had here prior to our onward journey and we felt safe on the site. The hotel is used by workers/truckers passing through hence there’s varied clientel.||This venue has the potential to be huge with some further fore planning and development. It’s a great base and the landscapes and gorges with an hour or so are breathtakingly beautiful. Don’t miss out...
