Read moreA very large park that fronts the Brisbane river. There is a cafe style outlet but I'm unsure what the menu may provide. There is a children's playground area with a few playground props. On the day I was there, there was an ice cream van. There are toilet facilities but these might be quite busy during events and school holidays. They have disabled facilities. As it was the school holidays at the time of my visit, it was very, very busy with parking at an absolute premium. There are bus parking facilities suitable for small buses and vans but I'm unsure of facilities for coach class. Similarly, I didn't notice a loading/unloading area. I also didn't notice an easy way for disabled to get around the parks many floral/botanical features. However, there are a host of shady trees available for a picnic lunch. In summary, this beautiful, well maintained park is ideal for a large get together looking for a peaceful shady spot for a picnic lunch on the ground. Similarly, this is ideal for a walk, run, or cycle. Additionally there is a nearby ferry that travels along the river to the city and a little bit beyond. Just keep in mind that school holidays, and special events may impact your access to parking and amenities. Not particularly...
Read moreThank God it's still free to park at New Farm Park. This lovely old park on the river was a product of Victorian era ideas about gardening, and is in need of Generational Planting. The poincianas come from Madagascar, the jacarandas come from South America, only the Moreton Bay Figs are local trees. How about a circle of Bunya Pines, for when the import trees all die off? The roses are gorgeous, and NFP is a popular wedding photo destination for this reason. There is a bandstand, often used by dancers, yogis and party planners. The bike/ walking track connects with riverside tracks heading west to town and east to Tenerife, so keep left. There is also a ferry stop for city-cats going up and down river, and across. Keep your dog on a lead, there is an off leash dog park just behind the Powerhouse next door. The Powerhouse also hosts weekend markets and outdoor theatre and cinema events. There is a terrific swings area with a fabulous fig tree treehouse, and rope climbing pyramids, like the ones on beaches in Spain. The ropes are strong enough for adults as well as kids. Watch out for muggers after dark, a photographer friend was knocked with a piece of wood by thieves...
