A little disappointed today. I paid an extra $4 for Avocado which was actually half a small avo and it was really underripe and hard, I couldnt spread it on my slightly stale toast which was more like bread? If you’ve ever had underripe avo you know how bad it taste. And they would have known since they cut it. Also had to use another tables salt grinder as mine was broken. I could look past this if it wasn’t for the service… the lady serving me wasn’t very personable. I walked in not even a Hi or Hello. Just ‘dine in or take away’ I said dine in and she mumbled to sit ‘wherever’. When she came to my table she just asked ‘coffee?’. I don’t know if English may not be her first language but I too work at a cafe and always at least great my customers with a smile and ‘hi how are you?’. I’d never treat anyone especially customers with that type of ‘I don’t want to be here’ attitude. I don’t want to be rude, maybe she was having an off morning but could I suggest maybe some more training on customer service? The man who checked me out seemed nice however and asked how my meal was. (I’m shy so didn’t mention the above). The food was brought out pretty quickly though, was a quiet early Thursday morning. And the iced Chai latte was good. I’d be willing to give it another go but hopefully they can improve in these areas! (Also please get rid of that giant spider that’s been sitting in that web in the bush next to the tables. Lots of people have arachnophobia and don’t want to dine with that thing next to...
Read moreLocation is peaceful, the bar fitout has a nice vibe however the seating arrangements make it feel like a cheap cafeteria. The fresh juice was nothing special, drinkable but not worth ordering again (especially for $10). The smashed avo and corn fritter benedict were both incredibly disappointing. The avo is processed (a paste out of a bag) or tastes like it is anyway. The sourdough toast was barely toasted and got soggy.
The corn fritters were mostly batter and very oily. The hollandaise was inedible - no acidity and tasted of curry powder (like a curried egg sandwich). I think the "hollandaise" was not house made - I feel that it may not have been made with butter but rather with oil making more of a mayonnaise.
The poached eggs were all over cooked. Both dishes were doused with a store-bought balsamic glaze. Way too much for either dish but completely out of place on a benedict. Very odd concept.
Disappointing because for such a lovely location with a large footprint they could create something special.
For 2 breakfasts and 1 juice it was $54. I will be asking for a refund, I'll edit with the outcome.
Edit - the maître d' assured me that the hollandaise and 'mashed' avo are both housemade. She was obviously concerned that we were unhappy and refunded the whole bill which was actually more than I asked for. The service definitely redeemed the...
Read moreOn a very hot and humid day last week, myself, hubby and Sis bravely headed out for lunch. New Farm Park is a green oasis, and it was pleasant to sit overlooking it (tho the café doesn’t have/didn’t have on? any air con). We drank ginger ale (her), ginger beer (him) and sparkling wine (me). Service was fine – prompt if not terribly warm. But it was the middle of the lunch service, so they were fairly busy. I chose Caesar salad with chicken, which was tasty and filling; full of green leaves, a poached egg (nicely runny), plenty of shaved parmesan and moist chicken slices. Sis had what she called ‘the best smashed avo on toast ever.’ It came with a poached egg, fetta strewn over it, and a few leaves. Happily the toast was a winner; not too hard or crusty. Hubby went for the Trady Burger – a beef pattie, with bacon, cheese, green leaves and fries. It was great value at $12.00. Sis and I shared potato waffle fries with aioli. They were delicious, and I think I scoffed most of them. I would happily go back just for a bowl of these! Food is tasty and filling, service is efficient, and what you see is what you get - a homely sort of place with food that fills and satisfies. All up, a good-value meal in pleasant...
