A relatively safe family bathing beach inside the Brunswick River's breakwalls, Torakina Beach is accessed by foot through Torakina Reserve. It serves as an esguarine recreation area for swimmers, kayakers and pedestrians. A nearby amenities block with public toilets and change area in Torakina Reserve is complimented by an outside cold-water shower and several covered picnic table areas to both the north and south of South Head Road. The nearest gas-BBQs are in the parks on the Br unswick Heads side of the river. Free car parking is available adjacent to Torakina Reserve and along South Head Road to the Brunswick Heads Surf Lifesaving Club / tennis courts and Community Centre. Pedestrian access is readily available from the road however while prams and bicycles are able to be used on the mown grassed, wheelchair access to the beach itself is difficult as the reserve does not include any formed paths. A community art event has been held in recent years and a sculpture walk has been proposed. Several public art works have been incorporated permanently in the reserve areas near...

One of the best beaches - parking would be a nightmare on weekends & can get quite busy, but overall the water is soo crystal clear, not too choppy and always a good temperature. It's very family friendly, there's always some kids or dogs around just having a good time. It's a really good place for snorkelling too, on a clear day if you bring some goggles and a snorkel you'll be able to see a whole bunch of fish, and some really pretty seaweed. While seaweed doesn’t sound too appealing, the clarity of the water and the presence of the small / medium fish makes the whole experience totally worth it. Would definitely recommend going there in morning / mid morning before the wind picks up, because it can get quite frustrating if there’s some sand blowing around. There’s also the standard showers and bathrooms facilities nearby which is handy. Short walk away from the little headland which sticks out into the sea if you’re up for it. And because it’s on the edge of the town of Brunswick Heads, it’s also super close to some shops if you need a quick bite to eat, or some ice cream...

We were looking for a baby-friendly beach for our 5-month-old’s first beach experience and Torakina was spot on. The water was calm and shallow which made us feel really at ease, and it was lovely to walk up and see so many families and kids of all ages enjoying the spot.

Parking is limited close to the beach but people seem to come and go pretty regularly so we managed to get a spot after a short wait. The water was a bit brown the day we went, likely from rain the night before, but it didn’t take away from the experience.

Overall a great beach for young families—relaxed, safe and a beautiful place for little ones to enjoy the ocean for...

It really depends on the time of the year that you don’t get much swell on this small pocket beach. We had fun though even on a short period of a dip. Not advisable if you have a toddler without any floaters on if you’re planning to go for a swim as the swell can swoop you off the shore. It can also get busy and crowded at times especially on a weekend or holiday.
