Very disappointing and somewhat distasteful experience.
The biggest thing I would like to touch on after yesterday is that you really need to better train your staff and perhaps suggest appropriate ways to interact with people. No one is smiling and as a customer I felt like an inconvenience to the staff as they were grumpily shouting “can I help anyone?” from behind the counter.
My partner and I purchased two pies (plus tomato sauce), two coffee frappes and a piece of carrot cake. In different transactions as we chose to get the sauce and drinks after buying the pies. When we returned we were served by a young boy and gave him a $20 note as the total was $13.80. He took the money and left to get the drinks which we thought was strange as we hadn’t received any change. When he came back he gave us our stuff and basically said seeya later. Upon asking for our change he was very rude and told us that we weren’t to receive any change because it was $10. Which didn’t make sense because neither the total or the money that we gave him was equal to that. My partner had to tell him several times and it wasn’t until he ran the transaction again that he folded and gave us our change. It’s quite reasonable for someone whom is perhaps a newer/younger staff member to make a mistake as such but we found that the way in which he treated us was just rude and dismissive. We all make mistakes but there’s certainly no need for the attitude.
Food wise, the pies were okay. It seems as though we must’ve chosen poorer quality pies as the reviews are usually quite good in that regard. My partners pie fell apart within the first bite and mine just wasn’t very good at all. Now the coffee frappes… I’m not sure why exactly they allowed us to purchase them as the machine obviously hadn’t enough time to actually somewhat solidify the liquid (they were aware of this)! We tried to drink them but it was way too strong as just a concentrated liquid.
On the other hand. I must say the desserts here are quite nice. I’ve been here many times over the past year and have never been disappointed.
Finally, cleanliness. Naturally being a bakery I’d imagine it would be a constant battle against the whirlwind of flaky pastry. In light of that I’m usually incredibly forgiving regarding the cleanliness…I draw the line though when I witness staff members lazily wiping the crumbs off tables onto the stools below and moving on. What’s the point? You might as well just leave it on the bench…
(P.S why is there are merch stand in the corner of the serving area when there’s hardly enough room as it is? It’s a bakery not a clothing store and it seems silly to make people lean over it/around it to access the...
Read moreBest Cheese & Bacon Pie I have ever had! Now I have had my fair share of pies, in fact I would say I'm a pieaholic! I could eat pies every day lol Have had plenty of bacon and cheese pies in my time but this pie was exceptional!
The pie itself had great meat and gravy, pastry was delicious but what sold me was the crispy bits of bacon on top that you could actually taste and the nicely melted/browned cheese on top of the pie. It was everything you would wish a cheese and bacon pie to be.
The bakery itself is a beautiful space framed with old timbers and exposed brick work, with the appeal of a refurbished factory.
Staff were busy but friendly and there were so many tasty looking breads, pastries and deserts there you could eat yourself into the happiest of food comas.
I would highly recommend you pull off the Pacific Highway as we did and stop for a pie, sausage roll or pastry here. And to top it off the coffee was excellent too. Im a coffee snob so that praise doesn't come lightly.
I am looking forward to the next time I head past Brunswick Heads so I can stop in for a pie again.
We had Steak, Bacon and Cheese pie, a sausage roll and a chunky steak pie. All...
Read moreAttempted to dine here with my wife’s elderly parents - 87 years old and not very mobile. Arrived close to closing time. Staff told us we are closing in “10 mins” and then sold us our food and coffee. We sat at a table and were literally told to leave 5 mins later at 3.30 on the dot. My elderly parents in law had to get up mid meal and go outside to sit on a bench on the footpath outside in a cold wind. Meanwhile we could watch staff cleaning up inside way past when we had finished eating outside. Two common sense and courteous alternatives would have solved this. Tell us we are closing in “ten” and also tell us “ so we are only doing takeaway now” OR Let them finish their meal inside and cleaned up around us. Both options are fine by me and demonstrate true “hospitality “. I’ve worked in hospitality most of my life including, funnily enough, multiple pie shops so I’m no whinger here. I did not remonstrate with the staff member as I put it down to very poor staff training. Pies were ok but way too salty and base...
