Kims Fish N Chips — Attraction in Darwin City

We went here for dinner as we were staying opposite. And we had read good reviews here on TA. Well, we ended up deciding on Kim's. WORST MISTAKE EVER. The lovely Cambodian girl who served us was very sweet. We ordered a grilled piece of snapper and a basic fish and chips. The section of lime was truly the only bright part of the meal. My 'grilled' snapper was instead fried, and, I think, deep fried, judging by the oil seeping out. We didn't have salad as they had plates of it piled up that had been sitting there since we arrived some 30 minutes earlier for a drink. The chips were soggy and broke in half when you went to pick them up. None of us finished any part of the meal. Worst meal in 57, 47 and 17 years respectively. Stay away. I rarely leave bad reviews but the food was a big disappointment. They do have an extensive well priced menu. We ordered steak and oysters Kilpatric. The steak looked good but my husband said the salad dressing was all over the steak and chips, leaving it with a strong vinegar taste, he did not finish. I had one oyster out of the dozen and could not eat any more, sadly they had not been under the grill long enough it tasted like BBQ sauce, the oyster was cold and the bacon also . They also didn't have eftpos, cash only which is inconvenient and unusual, particularly in these times where cash handling is not ideal. 15.6.2025 - the food and service is still amazing! We got the classic battered Fish N Chips - OMG! The battered Fish was so crunchy, I was tempted to go back and ask what batter they use! The chips were lovely too, sauce is extra (don't forget to ask for the sauce) 🤤 the service was really fast and our buzzer went off not long after we found a table. They have a liquor licence (remembering this is the Territory and unfortunately you need to provide photo ID to purchase alcohol - because some people spoil it for everyone else) so you can enjoy a drink, marvellous food and nice views.
