This is a great lookout and historical lookout place very close driving distance from Hobart CBD. There are plenty of parking spaces available, and there are plenty of grassy areas around to set up a picnic. The views of the harbour are amazing. You will also find some information posted about the fort, guns, and what it was built for. This should be something to see if you are thinking of visiting Hobart.

Interesting place to visit, easy to look around and explore. It would have been cool to be able to access the tunnels or get more info, as I didn’t feel I could completely absorb the experience or got to understand some little pieces of it. You can probably see everything in around 15min. Gates close at 5pm but you can park outside and access walking.

Lots of potential but could do with some upgrades. The signage was rather old and the fantastic views across to Mount Wellington, the Hobart CBD and the mouth of the Derwent were obscured by vegetation. It is not clear where exactly you can/should walk around the fortifications so be prepared for backtracking and possible slips/falls as you wander around. It would be useful if a single path could be designated that takes in all of the main features with updated, sequential information along the way in order to allow visitors to get the most out of this excellent location and the history...

Situated at Bellerive on Hobart's Eastern Shore. Stunning views of the Derwent River, Hobart, and Mt. Wellington. Has an easy walking track that takes you around the foreshore from Bellerive Wharf/Bellerive Village to Bellerive Beach. Also has an old military fort (Fort Street, Bellerive) which is well worth a visit. (Free entry). Watch the Yachts out on the Derwent River.
