Abundance on the Quay — Restaurant in Hobart

After getting some exercise, we decided to go have breakfast at one of the “best places” in the area, but the experience was disappointing.

From the start, the service was terrible. The restaurant was not full, yet we still had to get up to ask someone to take our order. After 40 minutes of waiting, our food never arrived. We tried to get the staff’s attention multiple times, but we were ignored. Strangely, other tables were being served without any issues.

When we finally decided to leave, the waitress suddenly came over to ask if we had received our food, even though our table was completely empty, without a single plate. It was obvious that they had no intention of serving us and that the chef had simply decided to ignore our order.

When we went to pay, the waitress apologized and told us that the bill would be covered by the restaurant, which, after everything that happened, was the least they could do. However, the issue wasn’t the bill—it was the lack of professionalism and the poor attitude of the staff.

If this is their level of service, I don’t understand how they are considered one of the best places in the area. Definitely, I do not...

The ambience is great, the service is fairly good, but the prices are a bit exuberant for drinks. Example: a take away small soy HC is $6.50. That seems extremely over the top. The price advertised on the counter for a small coffee is $4.50, yet a HC is $2 more expensive? I did enquire as to why it’s so pricey and she said the standard for a small HC is $5.50. So then by assumption the soy addition is $1. I’ve worked as a barista and I know that coffee is more expensive than HC powder, unless this is some sort of gormet HC, but it didn’t taste so. We have been regular customers here for monthly lunch get togethers for some time now but have noticed a marked decline in the service and quality of the food recently. Hollandaise sauce quite inedible and poorly good eggs on a recent visit. Also the early closing time of 2pm which certain staff are quite abrupt at imposing has also been a factor. If you book a lunch at 1 it would be courteous to let customers know you will be pressured to be out by 1.50 ish.We found it quite rude for staff to be stacking chairs,wiping down and packing up etc at 1.45 while we were still eating.
