Private tour of the MCG including the Australian Sports Museum. What an experience! This is the top shelf tour offered at the MCG and it was worth every cent. We were shown around the inner sanctums of the MCG including the cricket club private rooms, player change rooms, media areas and were able to stand in the centre of the oval to take in the view. Other tours don’t have this access. Our tour guide Carol was a star performer. She’s a volunteer (like all guides) and really made the experience special. The tour price includes entrance to the Australian Sports Museum. For cricket fans there’s a particularly great 11 minute life size hologram performance by Shane Warne talking about his life and career. The producers would’ve had no idea how quickly this would become so valuable.

The MCG is truly an amazing place and well worth booking the tour. Unfortunately our tour guide lady was really poor. Spent ages showing us around the basement garage pointing at closed doors telling us that's where the press area is, talking about recycling Taylor Swift's waste water and bigging up her personal anecdotes like meeting Kapil Dev in about 1982... so much so, that when we finally got to the really interesting stuff around the library and all the historic cricket memorabilia, she'd run out of time and raced us through way too fast. Talking before the group was assembled, vague with detail, poor overall. Not great. The Museum downstairs is really excellent. Superb interactive stuff and amazing 10 minute Shane Warne hologram.

An immersive, multi media, museum with excellent coverage of sporting prowess and achievements. The museum is open on game days only up until the game begins. There is plenty of information and articles to keep even the mediocre sports fan pursuing for hours. You can see how fast a race horse heart pumps or compare you batting technique against the legendary Sir Don Bradman. Staff are very helpful with insight into the vast collection and always available for a query. Access is via the MCG gate 3 entrance and once inside gate 3 you will immediately see the “National Sports Museum” ticket office.

The National Sports Museum examines the contribution that sport has made to the development of our uniquely Australian culture. The achievements of Australian sportsmen and sportswomen at all levels are showcased within interactive exhibitions, which represent all sports played within Australia. These exhibitions offer visitors an insight into Australia’s extremely diverse sporting history. GAME ON! INTERACTIVES GALLERY A real favourite, in Game On! you can test your goal-kicking skills against AFL players, cycle against friends and test your reaction times. With sporting activities ranging from archery to netball and cricket to soccer, the interactive gallery is the perfect place to throw, shoot, ride, race and run to your heart’s content!

OLYMPICS Faster, Higher, Stronger traces Australia’s participation in the Olympic Games with highlights including a display of Olympic relay torches, the cauldron used at the1956 Summer Olympics and the medals won in 1896 by Edwin Flack – our first ever Olympic champion. Audio-visual displays complement an incredibly rich collection that spans three centuries of elite participation on the world stage.

AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL The Australia’s Game gallery hosts a wealth of material collected from the greats of this uniquely Australian game. View the most comprehensive collection ever assembled, as well as immersing yourself in the Australian Football Hall of Fame gallery, where you can pay homage to the game’s greats.

SPORT AUSTRALIA HALL OF FAME The Sport Australia Hall of Fame was established in 1985 to recognise and promote the outstanding sporting achievements of Australian athletes across all sports as an inspiration to all Australians. Selection to the hall of fame by their peers is the pinnacle of achievement for any Australian sportsperson. The exhibition honours the careers of the various Members and Legends and features audio visual presentations and objects related to the Legends.

CRICKET The Backyard to Baggy Green gallery covers the history of Australia’s national game and features an opportunity for you to go face to face with one of the country’s most important and iconic sportsmen – Shane Warne – as he re-lives some of his favourite memories throughout his illustrious career through a state-of-the-art 3D hologram experience. The gallery also includes the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame and you won’t want to miss the marvellous Baggy Green Room, where you can gaze at an amazing collection of Baggy Green caps worn by Australian Test cricketers of both genders.

MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND The People’s Ground presents a history of Australia’s spiritual home of sport – the National Heritage listed Melbourne Cricket Ground. The exhibition highlights the history of the MCG and the important role it has played in the history of cricket, the Olympic Games and Australian football and as having been a home for thousands of Australian and United States servicemen during World War II.

HORSE RACING The Champions:Thoroughbred Racing Gallery opened in 2010 on the eve of the celebrations surrounding the 150th running of the world famous Melbourne Cup. The NSM provides the perfect home for the amazing collections and displays of the Australian Racing Museum including some of the most beautiful and important horseracing treasures imaginable, as well as gems that have never been displayed before. In addition, it features a suite of multimedia experiences, including some of the oldest racing footage from around the country and the opportunity for you to design your own racing colours.

MELBOURNE CRICKET CLUB MUSEUM The MCC Museum showcases the rich history of the club and the ground it manages – the world famous MCG. Did the MCG tour back in July 2022. We had booked for a 11:30am tour and it was meant to be groups of ten (Must’ve been due to Covid restrictions)

We arrived early so we could go to the toilet and relax. The elderly host who was a guide told us they're starting the tour at 11:15am but I mentioned we were booked for 11:30am, she barked back stating it’s starting early. She got grumpy when I told her two from my family were going to toilet.

We were in a group totalling roughly 18, many more as the website said the maximum was. Most were from other domestic states and my in laws were from Mumbai, the host did very well to remember where the white people came from then said “And wherever else you came from”.

It was extremely rushed. The heading out to the ground is just a marketing tool (You only head to the boundary fence on the fake turf) so that can be done at any cricket ground.

Done it once so no point doing it again or wait until a bit of fresh blood start doing these tours. The elderly still have the old school way of not being...
