The racecourse reserve is probably one of the best kept secrets of Melbourne. Most people living in Caulfield and surrounding areas aren't even aware that public access to the racecourse is available on non-race days. The main entrance is via the large automatic gate near Pawfield Park, which is located at the roundabout between Glen Eira, Kambrook and Booran roads. Pedestrian access is available via the this entrance as well as via the tunnel from Caulfield station, or a rather unsuspecting gate from Glen Huntly Reserve or Queens Avenue. Once inside, you're able to access the main racetrack as well as the practice tracks, walk past the horse stables and fish in one of two lakes. The second lake is also a stormwater drain and frequented by dog owners where their pets can enjoy a nice swim. The colour of the southern lake is blue because of a dye addition to prevent the reeds drying out. It's meant to be non harmful to pets. Adjacent to the main lake is a parking lot, toilets and barbeque facilities. There's also a large gated off leash area for dogs, although most dogs are seeing running free within the massive expanse of the racecourse. A gated soccer pitch is also available at the southern section. The reserve is frequented by dog owners, families with young kids where they can cycle around, drone pilots and fitness enthusiasts as well since there is also a small exercise area near the northern lake. There are plans to redevelop the space in the near future and it's truly a shame that this space will lose it's natural appeal.

Seems to be a racecourse currently set up for members owners and corporates.. went opening day of the Heath and feel like free entry was too much to pay. Us plebs couldn't get near the track, the winning post or even have a bar above ground level in the grandstand. As an owner who regularly attends, know that I left after 4 races to go to the pub across the road where a better beer was cheaper..food cheaper and the view of the races on their big screen better... Spectacular disappointment

We use the racecourse reserve (in the middle of the racecourse) to walk our hound, it has parking in the middle if you enter from the top of Glen Eira rd. We love how quiet and calm it is, our only criticism is the “off lead”‘section isn’t fully fenced the whole way round and they’ve shut off the soccer field meaning there is no where to let your dogs of lead that is secure. Which is usefull when you’re still training recall. But for a few laps of the lake it’s lovely.

First Sunday of every month they have market on from 9 till 3 It is free and situated in the middle of the race course Has lots of food stalls. Fresh vegetables and flowers. Also has honey and olive oil stalls. Jewellery and gift stalls and pet stalls. Lots of parking available. Can take your dogs.
