I was a distance education student (Business) and the overall feeling you get from Monash is that you're just another number bringing in the cash for them.
If you want to ask questions, you're asking other students in the online area, not the lecturers, so the information may or may not be correct... the lecturers are not able to be contacted easily, are slow to respond and usually unhelpful. Apparently 'self-directed learning' is code for 'we're not going to help you'.
What the lecturers do appear to be good at is spending their time authoring a new version of the overpriced (prescribed) text book so that the book you bought this year is unable to be sold at the end of the unit, and so they can make more money each year from a whole batch of new books being sold.
The powerpoint presentations are completely bland and there is very little feedback provided on any assignment you submit. That's if you get it back in time for it to be useful for exam study anyway.

I was towards the end of the degree I changed to when I was advised that the first 4 units I completed were about to 'expire' and that I would have to complete them again. In other words, I would have to pay more money and re-do a subject that I had already done, and passed. If this is the case, why is any completed degree from Monash valid in the workplace beyond a set time frame? The result, a very...
Read moreDisdain. Disdain is the only acceptable word to describe the deep seated feelings of hatred for the parking at this establishment. To attend Monash is to accumulate mass amounts of hecs debt and then be unable to even attend the compulsory classes or lectures due to the utter stupidity of parking. The only options to have a small chance of securing a park is to come at 4am or never leave the uni. Great to see the immense funding being put into free on campus breakfasts! Too bad there is no way anyone can get there because there's no parks. At least make a seperate teachers park or take away the zones so you have a possibility of getting a park before the new year. Building N has been in construction since the invention of the wheel. No one cares about building N. No one cares about revamping the graze cafe. No one cares that u have student help services.
