First, an expectation check: CCF is not comparable to a zoo, or even to bigger kid-friendly farms you may have visited. It's not one of the best things to do in Melbourne, and you probably won't touch many animals. But it's still a great experience for young kids and their parents, where you can get up-close with some classic farm animals - plus some others, like guinea pigs. The space in and around the Barn is lovely. The birds (peafowl, chickens, geese) are beautiful. The signposting isn't super clear but you can also follow the path through the fields, which I think is worth the short walk, even though you can see most of it from the Main Yarra Trail for free. You can also enter the goat pen next to the stables, where you can touch the goats if you want to. My child was completely done within a couple of hours and then couldn't wait to get out of there, but it was still worth the admission price. If you're travelling from further afield then you could combine CCF with the Convent and a walk along the river, at least to Dights Falls or Deep Rock (the farm itself actually doesn't make much of its riverside location). CCF includes a cafe, and there are places to eat in the Convent. Most importantly, the animals seem happy, and CCF is a not-for-profit that's always been very community-focused. Those are big reasons why it gets five stars from me.

I grew up on Nicholson Street in Richmond and was always fascinated by this farm. I recall walking down the path and discovering a magical place where peacocks roamed and an assortment of farm animals were alive and happy. The smell and sounds of the farm could easily be accessed from my house and was such a lovely reprieve from the hustle and bustle of suburban life. I revisited the farm recently again as an adult and it's funny what my childhood memories really recalled. The path to the farm is along the Yarra River, I didn't recall any of that. The farm is right next to the Abbotsford Covent, my childhood brain never even knew of it's existence. But what I did remember, were the animals. I remembered where the sheep and goats and horses were kept. I remembered the beautiful peacocks displaying their feathers. I have a wonderful memory of receiving a feather from a farmer as a keepsake, one of my most prized possessions as a child. If you want to create lasting memories for your children, I would recommend this farm. The farm houses sheep, goats, cows, horses, rabbits ponies, chickens, ducks, peacocks and pigs.. Plus they have a petting farm for the smaller kids and adults!

We visited the farm after having breakfast at the convent next door, arrived around 12pm and the only activity seemed to be meeting the sheeps at 12:30. If visiting with kids especially, probably recommend arriving close to opening hours as they have several activities between 10 and 11:30 but after that it's minimal activities spread really far apart in terms of time, and because it's only a small farm with just a few animals, you're not motivated to wait around for it, especially on a hot summer day. Toddler area is actually quite nice, sheltered from the sun and rain, and we were very thankful for the powerful fan that helped with the heat. I think if we had arrived earlier it would have felt more worth it but it was basically an ok experience for us. Only paid parking available, at the convent parking next door (supports both the convent and the farm). Price guide (as of Jan 2025): Adult $17 Child (2-12 yo) $8 Student concessions $14 Parking: weekends first 90 mins $7.50 (a dollar less on weekdays), +$2 per hour after.

Both of myself and child are having lovely time in the farm. I find that the length and flow of activities for the children are well planned as my child gets to participate in each of them without the need rushing around. The farm is small but I would say it is really just nice for those little legs and also friendly for the parent’s feet. We spent 4 hours in the farm inclusive of about 1 hour of meal time, my child is just so happy with this visit. I highly recommend this for those with young children to experience the very engaging activities and also learn a bit more from the experience and knowledgeable farmers. My apology I can’t remember the farmers’ name who were so patient with my child thank you so much! By the way the food there is also yummy and reasonable. Parents just be mindful of the birds (crows, seagulls, peacock, pigeons and some other species) that love to hanging around when you have food near the trees. Just be brave to keep them away from your child so you and your child can eat peacefully.

Lovely experience for my 18 month old to visit the animals. The lady who greeted us upon entrance couldn't have been lovelier, really enjoyed chatting about the Farm and Convent with you. We got to enter the goat paddock, pet friendly ducks, cat, cows, peacock, chooks, a turkey, silky hens, worm farm, geese, guinea pigs and various kinds of sheep. Wonderful to see them roam free range. The ducks and goats were very friendly and there were two new baby calves born recently which were delight to watch. We also saw a horse but didn't make it over to her/him. Happy to pay the entry price to help keep the farm going. People who complain about entry price or not seeing as many animals as they like must not understand that animals are not toys available to you for your amusement 24 hrs and must be respected, cared for and sometimes admired from a distance when they are at rest. Would highly recommend Collingwood Children's Farm and will continue to bring my son here for many years to come.
