This is a really awesome gem in the Parkville/Travancore/Flemington area. It’s far quieter than Royal Park not only in foot traffic, but also with industrial noise. Surrounded by the zoo and the protected swamp, you can hear constant birdsong and watch galahs feast on the grass.
The main oval is an on-leash area for dogs but when there are no games or sports being played, most people let their dogs off. There is a smaller, semi-fenced area to the side that is off-leash and is actually pretty amazing in terms of size and variety of grass and mulch and trees (that being said, there isn’t really a back “fence” - it borders onto the city trail and the train line).
The Trin Warren Tam-Boore Bellbird Waterhole is really serene and peaceful and is essentially attached to the oval. No dogs allowed here though and for good reason, the birds...
