The most blunt Mexican food. This place:Is a classic (very very simplified) Mexican menu for westernerners...the type where they sell you the most simple things but there is no extra intent in making anything remotely interesting or even more appealing as is just targetted to more " western people". Is a good first time experience if you have NEVER tried mexican food elsewise it was MUY PINCHE SIMPLONA y la neta si solo porque usan tortillas de maiz ya creen que ahi se termina la magƭa, pues la neta solo es otra franquicia como guzman y gomez y mƔs fƔcil preparar quesadillas no quemadas en tu casa. ( In english not only because they make a few guisados and use corn tortilla it means they are doing a good job: Guzman and Gomez has a more interesting menu even and their quesadillas are not burnt).

I am from Mexico and I can be honest: this is NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. in the past years a few other mexican restaurant have opened in Melbs that WILL DELIVER you a better culinary experience if you want to taste tacos and not just totopos con guacamole y el pinche pico de gallo

The most unaccommodating restaurant. On the occasion of my partner’s birthday, I tried to make a reservation for a table of 11 over the phone but the hostess was helpless. In order to secure the booking, I had to pay a non-refundable deposit of $30 per person ($330 total) and then I was told we could only order the banquets (only 2 options) due to our group size. When we arrived, they gave us a space that was way too small, a table that only 8 of us could fit onto, and there was 11 booked. We asked the manager how we were all meant to fit and asked for extra chairs, and his reply was 'we don’t have any spare chairs, you’ll squeeze in’, we had to wait about 40mins for the guests next to our table to finish their meals so we could join both tables and our friends could sit. We then proceed to ask questions about the menu and at one point the manager asked one of our friends: where are you from? Simply because he was confused with the ordering process and wanted further clarification, but the manager was so unpolite and didn’t want to reason with us as if one’s background had anything to do with wanting to know about the food they serve!

There are many other fantastic businesses deserving of one’s time and money. If you are looking for a terrible dining experience this is the restaurant you are looking for. The manager is really mean and didn’t hesitate to be extremely rude at us. It is very disappointing because I have heard good comments about their tacos but with that attitude not even the most delicious food worth it. I definitely wouldn’t...

I'm a big fan of Mexican food and was excited to try this place and compare it to my local, Los Amantes in Brunswick. Unfortunately, the experience left a bit to be desired.

Firstly, I thought the food was very good. I had the Birria tacos and pork Carnitas. Both were exceptional and easily beat the competition in my opinion. The totopos, guac and salsa was a let down. The salsa had a great smokey flavour but was too thin to stay on the chips and the guac was far too heavy on the onion, and light on the avocado. The chip to guac/salsa ratio was also really poor with only a few chips served. I had to pay $4 for another serving to finish the guac/salsa. For dessert, the flan was very good but the rice pudding was overly wet and thin. I'm not sure how it's supposed to be served, but I prefer a creamier rice pudding.

Inside, ambience is poor. It's overly cramped, loud and feels quite messy. This doesn't really bother me, but it's worth noting. The vibe outside seemed a lot nicer but it isn't really protected from the weather.

The thing that really let this place down however, was the service. I don't blame any of the staff as they did genuinly seem to care, but this place seemed understaffed and poorly run. Food arrived fairly promptly after ordering via QR code, but a can of beer took 25 mins and I had to ask about it twice. A second round of cocktails took 30 mins and dessert took a whopping 45 mins to come. Staff were apologetic which I appreciated, but it was pretty frustrating.

Food 4/5 Ambience...

@latortilleriaaušŸ“Kensington 🌮 Tacos (Lamb, Fish, Potato and Vegan Chorizo, Beef, Pork) šŸ„‘ Corn Chips, Guacamole, Salsa šŸ¤ Aguachile de Camarones šŸ® Flan La Tortelleria is an authentic Mexican street food restaurant located in Melbourne’s inner-west suburb of Kensington. Their award winning corn tortillas are made the traditional way from scratch, just like in the villages of Mexico and supply to many top restaurants around Australia. šŸ‡²šŸ‡½ To order you must use their online QR system (If you’re wanting to claim Melbourne Money, make sure you order everything in one go!) which is very efficient. We started with some Spicy Margaritas which were nice but could’ve been spicier. 🌶 The Guac and Salsa were probably the best I’ve had, they have definitely perfected the recipe here. Give me a bottle of that Salsa to go! The Prawn Salad was something I haven’t tried before and would easily reorder every time. šŸ¤ We were left underwhelmed with the remaining dishes. We tried almost every taco on the menu and every one lacked flavour in the meat. The ones I would recommend are the Fish and the Potato and Vegan Chorizo Tacos. The Flan was sadly overcooked and curdled at the bottom, but the flavour was there. The vibe here is upbeat and yet casual. You will almost always find a line out the door, especially on Taco Tuesdays when it is walk in only (Expect around a 20 minute wait)! I would come back to try some of their other main options. āļø 3/5 (Good)

La Tortilleria offers a variety of Mexican Street Food that is fresh and delicious. Considering portion sizes the place is pricey, so do take that into consideration should you wish to visit. Came back today Sunday 28th September and after having stood by the doorway waiting to be attended as 1 waitress looked at us and walked away , then another waitress simply walked past as if we were invisible, we simply decided to leave as it seems the service staff dont even have the courtesy to acknowledge that we were going to be attended to. On previous occassions the service staff simply turn people away with the sam e old 'those 2 empty tables are booked' or providing a waiting time that is a turn off. On this occassion there was no service, nothing at all that could be described as such. Respeten su lugar de trabajo ofreciendo un servicios que refleje una buena experiencia para con su clientele. You are doing no one any favours, it is the clientele that provide for you 'service staff' to have a Job..... Disappointed to give such a bad review, but given the fact that we been coming since this place opened, it is a shame that the service staff are so good at doing a bad Job at a place that has been offering and serving delicious Mexican food.

I've been here a couple of times before and the food is really good, no complaint about it. However, today, our experience was terrible, and the customer service was really poor. We went there to celebrate a birthday, and when they saw that we were a big group, they told us that we had just TWO options to order. Two plates, one which includes five items for $37, and the other one, which includes eight items for $52. The price is not the problem. The issue is that they are forcing you to eat whatever they want. You don't have any option to eat what you went for. Do you want to go there with some friends to enjoy tacos? You are not allowed, they are going to tell you what you have to eat, even if you don't want that. The staff were super rude, we tried to speak to them and get some kind of solution but they were not willing to offer us anything as a customers. They kept saying that everyone had to order one of the two options, that's it. Some of us live far from the restaurant, so we went there just to waste our time and make our celebration a bit tough. What a pity, this used to be one of our favourite Mexican restaurants. They not only lost a big order today but lost 12 regular customers.
