The Dax centre is an entirely unique place where mental health awareness and creativity are displayed and celebrated. Artworks from people with lived experience of mental health distress are curated and presenting in thoughtful ways to educate and inspire viewers. Most importantly there is a wonderful education program that gives tertiary and high school students a tour of the gallery and then the opportunity to listen to a lived experience advocate speak about their journey with mental health struggles and their path to recovery. I wish I had access to this when I was in high school! It is such a vital tool to break down stigma and put a human face to some of these unfortunately-still-taboo issues. The Dax Centre uses this Collection as the centrepiece of exhibitions and learning programs for students at all levels, as well as for the community at large.
