Ah yes, the hospital café — the most unexpected plot twist in the healthcare system ☕🏥. Nobody plans to come here, yet somehow it becomes the emotional support café you never knew you needed. You walk in expecting sadness and antiseptic smells, but boom — there’s carrot cake, gentle jazz, and someone frothing milk like it’s therapy. I got myself a mocha and a slice of dessert cake, and honestly? A little too good for a place surrounded by blood pressure monitors and beeping machines. The mocha hits that perfect sweet-bitter balance, and the cakes… soft, comforting, almost whispering “you’ll be okay” between bites 🍰💞. The lounge chairs are ridiculously cosy — like, why are these nicer than my GP’s waiting room? I sat there contemplating life, sipping my mocha, while somewhere down the hall a code blue might’ve been happening. It’s the strangest calm. You don’t go to the hospital for good coffee, but when you find it — it makes the whole experience just that little bit more bearable. 5/5 for emotional support caffeine ☕💉

19/06 /2019 Came again for lunch. Still my TOP +1 hospital restaurant in Melbourne. -----------------Original review---------------- Great price for great food, great service, and comfortable dining environment. I'm an interpreter. I go and work in different hospitals around Melbourne. I can tell you that there's hardly good food you can find in hospital cafeterias. However, this Super Eight in Peter Mac on Grattan Street surprises me every time I dine there, with their outstanding food and services. I found the newspaper on the table (terrible news to read with your lunch though), and a lovely service staff brought me this bottle of water. In fact, I got to choose between sparkling and tapped water. I might bring my friends there for a lunch date to be honest. I couldn't finish the risotto because it was a big portion for $13.90. Next time I'll have to ask them to cut the portion smaller for my tiny Asian stomach = )

As a patient at Peter Mac, and probably soon to be here Palliatively, I feel so disappointed by Super eight. The most I can recommend are the coffees. Today I bought a pokey bowl and it had smoked salmon in it., underline the smoked. Nothing to do with the Japanese flavour.. it was the weirdest poke bowl. The only thing that had to do with Japanese was that it had rice in it and salmon, but the salmon was smoked which is very in Japanese and it came with a little dob of tzatziki. Greek. Pickled red peppers. Yes, it did have the obligatory soy beans, edamame. $14 bucks. Disgusting. So it means that people who are here who are ill and have specific hopeful flavours and the poor families who have to be here and attend to their life out of the norm because of illness, not to mention all the medical profession that have to eat here get it right Super eight. Do a better job. At the very least be authentic.

Top quality service and clever interior design make Super Eight stand out. The owner clearly has a vision for the place, and is innovative without being pretentious nor confusing. In fact, the layout is more intuitive and flowing than 90% of other cafés.

Food us good quality hit and cold lunchtime fare for busy folks, though in one section of the cafeteria there are grass-green carpets, low lounge tables and three book nooks along one wall. This section also features five iPads with Wi-Fi for public use.

Being in a busy hospital precinct it's often a fast-paced atmosphere, but that's where the service shines through as a balancing agent. Every staff member to serve me has been courteous, un-rushed, and efficient.

As I watched the brand new cafeteria being fitted out, I found myself thinking, "on no, not just another Zouki." Far from it. Super Eight is in a class of its own.

Bustling yet well-oiled, functional and personal, the S8 is possibly the perfect addition to the new PeterMac...
