We had a belated Father’s Day Sunday family lunch here today and had a lovely experience. My great grandfather owned this pub from the 1920’s to 1960’s, and his aunt and her family then owned it until the 2000’s. This was Dad’s first time visiting the renovated pub under its current owners and seeing how it’s changed since his last visit decades ago, and the first time for the rest of us visiting Naughton’s. We had a mix of starters to share including potato cakes with truffle and honey, and sour dough bread with salami. The house made bread was amazing, and the truffle-honey flavour combination was something new for us and it works perfectly. Our mains orders included a few of beef burgers, the potato and ricotta gnocchi with spiced pumpkin and walnuts, and the Sunday pork belly roast. All were on point with lots of remarks about the burgers being much better than your usual pub, and the gnocchi not being out of place at an upmarket Italian restaurant. We didn’t really need dessert as we were rather full but the food had been so great that we found a way to share a sticky date pudding between the five of us. The serving is easily large enough to serve two, and it was on par with the quality of the starters and mains. The service was wonderful and paired with the quality of the food, we’ll definitely be back again. Many thanks for the stubby holders! Very cool to see our surname on a stubby holder

Second visit Second time here for a winery lunch and it was just as good as the first visit. The food was absolutely delicious. For me, the ceviche was the standout. Beautifully flavoured with some fascinating texture and pop from the finger limes. The service was superb too - particularly from Hamish and Milly who were outstanding. It was terrific to hear from the very skilled head chef at the hotel too about the particular dishes we enjoyed. Top class stuff all round. This is a brilliant pub. I wish it was our local as we’d be here all the time. We’d happily return here anytime First visit Came here for a winery lunch. It’s good. The dining area is lovely and well appointed. The food was good but maybe not top draw. The best course was an unusual one. It was advertised as mussels with bread and we expected a bowl of mussels with some bread on the side. Instead it was mussels on the bread with lovely green touches. It was a lovely dish. The wines from Narkoojee were exceptional and the pairings were excellent. Service was variable throughout. It was spectacularly good from our prime server Grace but typically less impressive from other servers except the senior male manager who was really good. It’s a nice gastro pub, and we’d happily return anytime.

Back in my tertiary study days, each big University of Melbourne faculty (or heavy drinking department) was identified with a particular pub on the periphery of campus: Naughton's was the Commerce Faculty pub, and as such, I never crossed the threshold there, given Commerce students were the mortal enemies of Arts students such as myself. I'm not sure if this pub-faculty identification continues today but I do know that's it's been a long time since Naughton's was a rowdy student watering hole. It's now quite a nice place for a drink and/or a meal, even for families. The chips that came with the chicken parma were exceptional, as was the nicely put together coleslaw of red cabbage. Other dishes were also very satisfying and the inside eating area is very comfortable. It's not the place for an edgy experience or to sample interesting food sensations but it is a reliable spot for a nice meal.

This is a hotel I would really love to give 5 stars to, but unfortunately I can't quite do it. First the great things. The location is great, the tram truly does stop just across the street. The staff is friendly and helpful. They responded to emails before we arrived and quickly fixed a couple of issues while we were there. The room is really a lovely room. Our room had three tall windows which let in lots of light. There's not much of a view, but the room seems bright and airy. There is a coffee bar area with tea as well, and milk is provided in the mini fridge. My wife especially liked their coffee. I appreciated the bottle filled with water daily and put in the fridge. They also put the glasses there as well so they are cold. The bathroom is mostly white solid surfaces which also feels bright and clean. It feels very charming. So what's not to like? ||||Most of the things are small thing, but they do add up. First let me note that there are only narrow stairs to the rooms. This was not a big deal for us, but should be pointed out. Our first issue was there is no place to put a suitcase except the floor. A nice wooden bench under one of the windows could easily be put in without negatively impacting the look of the room, and it would be so much more convenient. I also felt the TV was too high especially if you are sitting in the chair, but perhaps that's personal preference.||||The bathroom has more issues. The weather was cool while we were there, and the floor tiles were very cold in the morning. The shower floor was very shiny and somewhat slick. Twice I slipped a bit in the shower. Also the water can change temperature in the shower, and the hot water is very hot. Not a good situation. We found the vessel sink very shallow for our needs even though it looked good. All in all we felt the bathroom looked great but did not function as well as it could.||||The big concern for us was the internet. We found it to be slow and at times unresponsive. It was usually better in the morning, but it was just not reliable. We use the internet to keep in contact with family and to check out plans for the day so this was frustrating.||||Overall this is a nice place to stay, but it could have been a better stay with a little more...

This is a lovely little hotel with only 10 rooms. There's a restaurant/pub below with excellent food. It closes before 10pm, so no real issue with noise there.||||I was given room 104 which was their largest room with a sitting area. It has no view which wasn't the real issue. The problem was a large compressor outside the window which went on and off all night which disturbed the sleep quality.||||I requested a change of room and the staff were happy to oblige, most politely with no questions asked. I was given one of the rooms facing the main road which was not particularly busy and so was essentially quieter. However the trams start at about 5.45am which woke me up early (luckily I had to wake up about then anyway to catch my international flight). There was some other noise at around 2am with a couple of guys talking loudly outside but that's another story ...||||The other problem I had is that I suffer from allergy and this bothered me during my 3 night stay. I suspect that the carpet was made from wool (which I'm allergic) to rather than feather pillows (which I'm also allergic to). But this would not be an issue for normal folk!||||Overall, I liked this place. Loved the boutique style. The food downstairs was delicious. Staff were polite. I chose this hotel because of the location...
