Woke up early and decided the walk from Albany town centre to Convoy Lookout might give me a good view of the sunrise. Wow, was I right and it worth the walk. The view of the sunrise from the lookout here has to be up there with one of the best I have ever seen, felt so lucky. Also, it was very interesting finding out about how all the ships gathered in Albany to head off to war. Well worth visiting, even if not at sunrise :)

Convoy Lookout is a very interesting place to explore, even for those not particularly intersected in Australian military history. The well documented walk up to the lookout provides background history to the convoys. The views from the top are stunning and panoramic. On the way back check out the surrounding fortifications.

The City of Albany has looked after this historic area quite well since the 1980s. It was a derelict run down dump here back in the 1970s. Nicely preserved history. Well worth visiting or volunteering to help out around the area. The Garrison restaurant prepares amazing meals .

Convoy lookout Albany is another great observation point along the way around Mount Clarence which encompasses the National Park as well as the National Anzac Memorial grounds and Interpretlive Centre. The day we stopped and spent time there we captured an Eagle flying above us down to the water below and back up above Mount Clarence. Lots of merchant ships were in the harbour below. A great spot to relax and take in the...
